    tranny help?

I am putting my tranny back together from installing my new proball diff. Should I lube all the gears in the tranny before I seal it up?

Also, is there a trick to removing and reinstalling the tranny without taking the whole back of the Rustler completely apart?
    This is a pain.

    Thanks.

    Thumbs up tranny......

First of all, yes you should lube all the gears up very good. However, you don't have to pack the tranny full of it, just coat the gears liberally with either a good quality grease that is made for R/C car gearboxes, automotive wheel bearing grease, or silicone grease. From my experience, the silicone type seems to be less likely to try to work its way out thru the outdrive bearings, therefore creating less mess after you have been running it a while. And the quickest way to remove the tranny, without excessive teardown is to remove the lower shock screws from the control arms, get the battery box out of the way and remove the 2 screws that hold the bulkhead in place(underside of chassis). Now pull the shock tower/bulkhead assembly free from the tranny. It will lift off, but may take a good tug to get it free. Pull it straight up to remove it. Set that aside for now. Take the brake linkage loose, but you can leave the spur gear in place for now. Remove the 4 screws that hold the tranny to the chassis on the bottom of chassis. There are 2 big ones and 2 little screws. You also have to take out the 2 screws that secure the front of the tranny brace. Your tranny should now be free to slide up and out of there.

Will the diff ball grease or thrust bearing grease that came with the pro ball diff be OK as tranny gear grease?

Get a big tub of automotive Moly-Graph grease.

I "paint" my gears with this stuff.

I tear down my tranny every gallon and and re grease them, and re-shim if necessary

a small layer of AE grease wont cut it.
