Tommorow I'm going to pick up my Nitro Rustler. My question is what extras should I also buy? I also live in barracks, so I need to have as complete a setup as possible.. Thanks ahead for any suggestions, I'm going back to watching the clock.
Othin, one thing you should really stock up on if you dont get to go to your LHS often is get as many glowplugs as you can! hahaha...I say about five at the least if you plan to be doing alot of running. Just breaking in your Rustler should take about 2 plugs. Secondly...your rubber elbow on your stock exhaust should crack within 1-2 months so you might want to get a spare one. It is the one between the header and the pipe. When it cracks you will know the difference because it will choke during hard throttle acting as though the engine is running too lean. But the fact is when the elbow cracks it lets too much pressure out so your tank has no pressure for the fuel to go back into the engine. Also pick up some nice rear tires because by the time ur Rustler is broken in the needles on the stock tires will be all gone. The stock front seems to be good enough for me...other than that just dont flip it too much and you'll be ok!
I'd pick up some extra front and rear shock towers, or go ahead and order graphite or aluminum . My stock towers broke within the first few weeks.
Don't forget to get a better air filter and some after run oil as well.
Well if you want to be able to play hard and not have to run back to the LHS. Get the Following:
Bearings for the wheels
MIP CVD's Kit (Drive shafts)
spare Front C Hubs. (Mine are Alloy)
Spare Turnbuckles. (Mine are Titanium)
Spare Shock Towers (Mine are Alloy)
Get Proline dirthog 2 tires front and rear.
the factory ones realy suck.(remember to glue the tires to the rims.)
so get some zap glue.(don't go crazy, this stuff sticks bigtime)
Glow plugs.approx 5.
Spare body clips.
All this suff sounds like alot. However where you live, you will not have the chance to go to your LHS on a daily basis.
Yes it will cost you a bit. but you will spend your time driving and less time fix'in.
How go have fun!!!
I Can Smell the NITRO
I have to agree on rustler with the CVD's...I wanst thinking completely above and forgot to mention...your factory differential yokes will strip under hard jumps. You can either get CVD's or get the steel diff yokes...its your call. Other than that I dont have any probs with the other stuff breaking...oh and get new chassis screws...the factory ones will strip on you! (The screw heads will strip.)
Another thing I would suggest dog is that U pick up some nut drivers and some other really important tools! these really are handy at the track!
Also don't forget a cool toolbox to go with it.
Get a new engine if your doing more then backyard bashing if you wanna beat those GTs your not gonna beat them with the TRX Pro .15 try getttin a picco or novarossi or O.S
no offence to all who like the traxxas engine
Hey Guys, You are all missing the point.
He didn't say he was going racing. He said that he lives in the barracks. He needs it to be bullet proof. (Not Break). Read my last post. Between my brother his friends and I we have 5 of rustlers. We all try other things. My concept is play as much as I can and not have to run back and forth to the LHS. Play hard...Play long..
I Can Smell the NITRO
Hey all, thanks for the suggestions. I bought everything that I could that they carried. Unfortunetly they didn't carry any hop up parts. My next question is what online retailor would you suggest buying hopup parts from? Anyone else have trouble with the clutch stripping out within the first hour of use? (most of which was parked stationary)
On a side note, I had a blast with that truck today, and I didn't even get to really "bash" with it yet. I was just breaking it in like the manual said. All went well except for when a jet flew over and I watched it instead of the truck. Needless to say my TRX front plate has its first battle scar. Awww yeah. Thanks again for the help and suggestions.
