yes and no.
for most club racing its all in the driver, or at least if you run very constastant laps, and dont crash, you normally will win.
however if you are running long mains, then durablitiy becomes a factor
however the main hop ups are
-the right tires (VERY importnat
-cvds
-stinger
-STEERING, a better servo and BB steering, VERY IMPORTANT!
Yeah, you gotta replace the steering. And spend a lot of time getting your tuning right. It's a good place to start racing if you are just begining because they are pretty tough, but you probably won't be winning any races...

i'll explain why you need to get a better steering servo- the stock seering servo is pretty powerful but not powerful enought to hold the tires turned as far as they can go in high speed turns. i have just replaced mine with a Cirrus servo that has metal gears.
