    ReBuild nitro hawk

ok, i am going to re-build my nitro hawk so it is up and running. I figure on getting these parts to make it running-

    -T-Maxx engine mounts
    -Antenna holder
    -fuel tubing
    -engine
    -liquid tape

I have lowered the my nhawk using fuel tubing on the shock pistons. i plan on driving it on road or driving it on some flat ground.

I was also thinking about a new body and if the t-maxx tank would fit?? Also new tires? I was thinking of Road Hawgs wy proline and some clawz rims. what do u people think??

Not sure on the servo yet. There are alot to choose from. The T-maxx tank fits pretty good unless you have an EZ start in it.You will have to drill a couple holes for it.At one time I did have a EZ start in it but I had to run a mini servo.Started having problems with the EZ and the mini servo didn't have enough torque.

i put the MIP 360 Stinger pipe on my nitro hawk with the stock shock tower. all u need to do is raise the shock tower up by taking the screws out then move the shock tower up and put the 2 screws back in.

I have two Nitro Hawks, one that I'm leaving as a Hawk and the other I'm converting to a Nitro Street by replacing the following components:
    #1731 - Front Suspension Arms
    #1632 - Front Caster Blocks (20 Deg.)
    #1637 - Steering Blocks & Wheel Spindles
    #3418 - Front Shock Tower
#2750 - Rear Suspension Arms, Long
#2752 - Rear Stub Axle Carriers
    #2751 - Half-shaft Pro-Pack Driveline
    #3435 - Front Bumper
    #3411 & 3414 Nitro Street Body & Decals
    #1935 & 1937 F&R Turnbuckles
    #3472 & 3473 F&R X-wheels
    #3470 & 3471 F&R Street Tires

I think that's everything I'm replacing. The stuff is on order and I should have it by Tuesday Nov. 5th. I am also trading in my old tired TRX .12 for a TRX Pro .15 with the Traxxas engine replacement policy. I should have that ready to break-in about the same time as I get my other stuff. I will be doing the fuel line in the shock shaft trick that NPede 69 mentioned to limit suspension travel. I might set a 20 tooth clutch bell gear for higher top speed. I'll get pics submited when I finish.

NPede 69 , did you ever upgrade to a .21 or a T-maxx engine mount? I like the Road Hawgs and Claws, that's what my friend runs on his E Rustler. He says they do fairly well in hard packed dirt. I personally have Striker II's wrapped around a set of Talons for my Hawk.
dansan, let me know how that 2 speed thing works out. That shoud make it fly!!!!!

Any metal gear, super-high torque servo will work for you but be prepaired to pay upwards of $70 - $110 for a real good servo. Save up your money because I think a good servo is worth the $$$

i will let u know about the t-maxx engine mount as soon as my hobby shop gets them back in stock. People over there in the docks went on strike causing everything to slow up. i just got some ProLine dirt paws for the rear and Duratrax Diamond tires for the front for this winter. i also ballooned all the servo's and recievers. i plan on moving the gas tank up a few millimiters, so i can get everything in there good. i dont know how good the t-maxx engine mount will fit, so i am going to drill new holes and move my gas tank forward where there is extra room. what is a good fast/ torque servo for steering?? is 50 oz good?

NITRO RUSTLER1 check out the Nitro Street parts page thru Traxxas. Since they are basically the same chassis and drive components as the Hawk it should work fine, it's nothing fancy. The theory of using a larger tooth Clutch Bell or a smaller tooth spur gear is the logic I used when racing electric. I suppose the clutch bell gear is the equivalent to a pinion gear. Maybe we should toss this theory towards the big shots at Traxxas. I'm sure they would know for sure. They might even be able to give us some sort of cheat sheet to help us figure gearing for tuning purposes.
NPede 69 keep us informed of how the retrofit of the T-maxx engine mount goes. Wouldn't that be awesome to have a hot .21 with two speeds to spank all those GT's and NT's!

NPede 69 Thanks for putting that link of that guy's Nitro Hawk with the .21 and 2 speed. That was very reassuring and motivating to read about a vintage RC that is used and well taken care of. I also saw the pics of your Hawk and they look very cool! Is that red body a stock Nitro Hawk body? It looks like it has seen a few rollovers. It isn't a good day running if your RC doesn't cartwheel about five times or slide in it's roof for at least ten feet.

    Post Work done so far..

ok, so far on my nitro hawk i have-
-put new Duratrax Diamond tires on the front
-new rear sand paws by Proline
-ballooned all my servos and reciever
-put a HB .18 short shaft engine in
-moved my gas tank forward and to the left
-rotated my throttle servo 90 degrees to the left to get the stock brake and throttle linkage to fit
-got a stock nrustler side pipe shooting out the back

all i need now is the T-maxx engine mount to ancor my engine down and i will be RTR!! Also i am looking to get a torque and speedy servo for my steering, got any suggestions?? what is the torque for the TRAXXAS 2055 servo?? i will hopefully be running by next week.

P.S. the reason i ballooned everything and put diamond tires on the front and sand paws on the rear is because i live in NY and snow is coming... got to get ready.

Hey NPede 69, dansan, & Nitro Rustler 1 I found a link on some nitro website to crank up the HP output on your TRX Pro .15. I know Npede, you are going for a bigger engine alltogether but for those of us who are still running the Pro 15 this article is very interesting. Here is the link tothe website or you can E-mail me and I can send it to you directly in a MS Word doc.
    http://www.nitrorc.com/

    Check this one out!

I have both my Hawks torn to bits and pieces an going thru both of them. I would show a pic in there current condition but I'm not sure how. Do I need the pic already on the web or can I download it directly? Does anyone know?

    Exclamation FINISHED!!!

I finally finished, i would of finished a lot sooner but the t-maxx engine took awhile to get... this is what i did to it-
    1)T-Maxx engine mount
2)HB .18 starts with a drill and socket
3)moved the gas tank up and to the left
4)kept the chassie brace in there
5)rotated the throttle servo 90 dergrees to the left
    6) Stock nrustler pipe sticking out the rear
    7)new fuel lines
    8)in-line fuel filter
9)balloned all the servos and reciever
    10) Brand new Duratrax Diamond tires on the front,
11)Brand new Pro-Line Sand paws on the rear
12had to cut away some of the chassie so i could start the engine with a drill
13)Traxxas TQ Remote, Traxxas 2 channel reciever
14)LED'S int he front and rear
    15) DRILLED LOTS OF HOLES!!

All of this equals one awsome winter machine!! Cant wait to drive it..... too bad i got a cold....

Pic's will be coming some time within the next 2 weeks....

drover my rebuilt nitro hawk for the first time in months. i could barely keep the front end down with the HB .18. the sand paws on the rear and diamond tires on the frontdid great in the snow, and a drove 1 full take throught the truck. when i went to start it back up after i put more fuel in the engine, i started it up, and held on it and gave it the throttle a couple of times and the carb popped off the engine.... so that was the end of bashing for today, i will probly fix it later.

I'm looking into a new way to have brakes also. With the TRX Pro .15 I guess you can buy an adapter from Traxxas that lets you use the origional style but a little different design. Either way disk brakes are much easier to adjust, replace, and stop the truck. I'll keep everyone posted if I find anything that works well.
I'm making some progress on my Hawks. I got the brand new Pro .15 to use in the one I'm turning into a Nitro Street. I took advantage of Traxxas' return and upgrade policy. It worked great, I sent them my old Image .12 and $75 and two weeks later I have a new Pro .15. Not a bad deal if you ask me. The Nitro Street conversion project is going much slower that I had expected but it is making headway. Meanwhile I'm going smaller with the engine instead of bigger. When Nitro Rustler 1 informed me that the Hawks are lighter than the Rustlers I've been looking for other areas to reduce weight for racing.
#1 I have a Team associated motor mount to lighten the load from the origional Traxxas mount.
#2 The big aluminum plate that the gearbox and motor mount bolted to is gone and replaced with washers to space up the gearbox to the stock height and a piece of foam is used to cover the big hole in the bottom of the gearbox.
#3 I have a OS CV-Hyper .12 installed instead of the Pro .15 which is lighter and more stock power.
#4 I am using Team Losi clutch, clutch bell, and flywheel which is a smaller diameter than the Traxxas flywheel to allow me to mount the engine lower to drop the trucks CG.
#5 I'm in the process of going thru the front end and making custom aluminum front bulkheads to accomodate Associated Factory Team graphite parts
#6 I'll probably slap on some Losi Spec tires. I just love that cool blue look! I just can't get enough of them.
#7 Lastly for now, looking into titanium turnbuckles and steering linkage. This will be expensive but I think it is a worthy upgrade for any serious racer. Once I get the front end the way I like it I'll probably start messing with the back.
It ain't work if you love what you do!

For that price, you're selling it with the radio and everything right? What else comes with it? Tires? Servos? Bodies? Extras?
Sorry to hear you are getting out of the hobby, are you still going to be available for 'Vintage Advice'? I just found out last night that there is going to be an indoor off road track opening up middle of December that will allow Nitro.
I'm planning on starting off with the OS CV Hyper.12 engine and running my Hawk as light as possible. I'm going to wait to do the laundry list of replacements #5-7 untill I start wearing stuff out or breaking it.
