im looking on spending about 150 bucks and i want the fastest and most reliable engine.

I had a Megatech in my truck for a while that ran really good. The truck was fast and pulled good wheelies in the street. But if ya buy one... pull the carb off,, throw it away and put a Traxxas carb on it. As far as an OS... the only one I have ever run was an old .12 cz-r that I aquired in a horse trade deal and I have to say I WAS impressed with it even though it wasn't as fast or as powerful as anything else I've run and it was aweful touchy to tune. I hear both good AND bad comments about Fantom engines. I want to try one out but I'm kinda torn between it or buying a ported TRX since I've never had one and I don't have a steady enough hand to do it myself. I think the Fantom is definately worth a try though. I'll have one eventually just out of curiosity if nothing else.

Get an OS .12 CV-X. I just got one (havent broken it in yet) but ive heard it will smoke the TRX 2.5 yes i said 2.5.

If you get the OS .12 CV-X you have to cut the crank down a bit.

Hey I've heard a lot of guys around here say that the Fantom is a really good engine!Give it a try, plus the O.S. is super hard to start up the first time with its pull start!

They are pretty easy to start! It is just the first time starting it up! + how do you know you have a TRX .15

hey i was lookin for a new motor too. is that o.s. .12 cv-x a direct bolt on or will i need to do and modifications for the motor to fit?

and also i was lookin at the o.s. .15 cv-x, what about that motor? same as the .12 but just faster? and will i need to modify to fit the motor on the chassis?

I bought one and I love it. It is SO MUCH FASTER than the trx. Also it starts great....easier to tune and break in it seems to me.

Installing was a bit of work- I would suggest calling around to your local LHS's and see if anyone is willing to help, that's what I did. All you need is a dremel and patience. It took about 2 hours to get mine in. You will have to trim the chassis, motor mounts, and tranny brace. I also went up 2 teeth on my pinion (22 I think?) because squeezing that big motor in there takes away most of your adjustment range.

With the 22t pinion and the OS.15, mesh was perfect. Torque was definately improved, but the top speed- well, lets just say I don't need it to go that fast. On my local track, I pretty much can't keep it on the track if I hit WOT at all. Most of the time now, I just let it idle and give it little BRAPS now and then. 60mph is overkill when the longest straightaway is like 60'.
