Higher RPM's from the Pro .15

Does anyone know how to get more RPM's out of the pro .15. I decided to stick with the pro .15 for my Nitro 4-tec pro since I am a diehard Traxxas fan. I know the engine has potential but it is a lot slower than my friends HPI .12 Nitrostar. I'm willing to do a little work to get it up to speed with the "other" engines out there. Any help/articles/knowledge would be appreciated.

My Nitro 4-tec site is here:

The engine in the car on my site is now gone.....I was thinking about buying the HPI engine but I had second thoughts and decided to stick with the Traxxas engine, so I purchased another one.

Smile TAKE YOUR EZ START OFF YOUR 4TEC...

IF YOU WANT YOUR ENGINE TO HAVE LESS RESISTANCE AND MORE POWER AND SPEED, YOU NEED TO LOSE THE EZ START SYSTEM AND START USING A STARTER BOX..EZ START MAKES YOUR 4TEC EXTRA HEAVY.. YOUR CAR LOOKS REAL COOL AND PRO..IN ORDER TO MAKE IT LOOK REAL PROLEVEL, YOU NEED TO GET RID OF ALL OF THE EZ START AND WIRES OFF YOUR CAR

OH YEAH!! I RECOMMEND PORTING YOUR ENGIN TOO!!

    WOW!

    nice car..
what is that metal shaft that connects the diffs to ur wheel...
and how did u turn ur high speed needle around..

    and to anwser ur question...

i think u need to lighten the connecting rod and put a lighten fly wheel..
u know something to lessen the rotating mass...

First off, take that ez-start off and add a pull start or a starterbox. Then if you dont have the optional gears, get those. You need those for racing.

All of the above will help in some way. But remember, the more mods you do to an engine to increase performance, the more quickly it will wear out.

    Hope this helps,

Thanks for the info. so far I gathered that I should:

    1. Toss the EZ start (which I did) and get a pull start.

    2. Port-I'm gonna have to read up on this.

    3. Lighten the conrod-great pics, thanks.

    4. Get a light flywheel---I know RRP makes a lightened flywheel for the T-Maxx, would this work OK on the 4-Tec?

The "metal shafts" that connects the diffs to the wheels are the MIP shiny diffs. They work/look great.

As for the high speed needle, I never messed with it since I got it. What do you mean "turn around"?

Thanks for the responses. As soon as I get my engine in the mail, I'll start working on these things. If anyone could answer the question about the flyweel, I would greatly appreciate it, Thanks again.

    Cool Shiny CVDs

Did you notice any difference in the top end? With less rotating mass one would think it would pick up a little speed.
I bought it , I built it , and then I broke it.

Actually when I installed them, I installed a bunch of other parts and all together I noticed a great improvement, unfortunately I did not measure performance for each hop up I did.

Onebigman- which optional gears are you talking about the spur or pinion or both. I heard if you change both sets of gears all you get is a lot of tire spin.....can you help?

I am talking about the spur and clutch bell gears. They actually decrese top-end by 6mph but you will have a some explosive acceleration. But use the stock gearing if you want high-top-end.

Thanks for the info onebigman.....I think I'll buy all of them--I don't think it would cost much, and try diff. combinations and see what works.
