Would this work for a Starter Box?

if i was to just take off my 1 way bearing (Broke) and the pullstart n the .15 pro, would i be able to use a bump starter then? i am tired of 1 waysd going on me. and i got a starter box.

    yes, you could do that.

You could leave the pull starter on there and use a bump starter or starter box. That way, you wouldn't get so much of a chance to get dirt in the engine through the back plate. I would pull off the one way bearing though. You may even want to pull the guys out of the pull starter. Just be careful not to lose an eye taking out the coil spring! lol Then plug the hole where the pull start string went with some shoe-goo to keep dirt out

    Hi-

A backplate only costs about $10.

    Just a thought-

My pull start cord broke on my engine. I just left it all sitting as it is and got a bump starter. Works like a champ!

actually, what i dod was solder the 1 way to the starter shaft and use a driver anda drill to start it, it works real nice :-)

That's it, now you really messed thiongs up, HORRIBLY!

It isn't good to have the bearing exposed like that. You said you soldered it to the shaft.. We'll be waiting for your return tomorrow when you say the bearing flew off and hit you, or when starting the engine, you snapped the crank shaft, because you couldn't get the drill off in time. Or maybe you will wonder why your engine lost all compression; well, it's because the inside is full of dirt.

I know people who run their engines with only the starter shaft showing and use the bearing in a drill bit to start the engine, and their engine seem to work fine. I think it is ok for on-road, but not really for off-road because there is increased dirt everywhere.

marcoze, you're taking a big chance with the starter shaft exposed like that. If you wiggle it a little with your hand, you'll see it's not that snug a fit.

An engine(2 stroke) sucks and blows. Any dirt near the starter shaft/backplate pass-through could easily be sucked into the engine case. not good.

Then there's the whole getting the drill off the one way quickly enough to rpevent snapping the starter shaft, or worse, your cam.

Good ingenuity, but you are taking some risks

it is funny the mention of the one way flying off bcuz it hapnd to someone i recently met at an offroad track. the bearing flew off and knocked him right over his eye. luckily it was above his eye and not in it. (we ) guys at he track told him it was not a good idea and not even 20 minutes later the accident hapnd.

so even though it sounds and seems easier there are hazards to doing this

it seems to me that leavin the shaft exposed isnt a good plan, but i've seen many people mwho i consider very knowledgable drill-start their engines at the track, and there is a right angle adapter just for drill starting out there selling now.....i cannot see a problem with starting with a drill, but i wouldnt leave my backplate open

He doesn't just have the shaft exposed, he has the ONE WAY BEARING SOLDERED TO THE STARTER SHAFT! Someone MUST see how incredibly brainless that idea is?

    marcoze,
If I understand this correctly, you have sodered the oneway to the starter shaft. In normal opperation the oneway stays stationary and the shaft spins at 30,000 rpm inside it. Now you have the the one way also spinning at 30,000 rpm. I don't think the bearing is designed for this. There is a very real possibility of the bearing-nut assy exploding violently because of centrifugal force. If this hits you in the eye youv'e lost an eye. If your friend looses an eye then you will feel terrible and may pay for it the rest of your life. I have been a small motors and marine mechanic for 30 years and I have seen the results of exploding machinery and I strongly advise you to remove the oneway before you run that engine again.
