That's kinda what I thought. Friends of mine have the Pede VXL and they running standard gearing on 2s and theirs stays cooler in the same driving conditions

Anyway, it just seems regardless of how I drive (acceleration etc) it always seems to get that...

So I've had my Rustler VXL for a few months now and just about every time I drive it the motor temp gets to at least 160F if not a bit more.
My gearing is 23/83, the drivetrain is smooth...

Well I guess it's not really fair saying don't buy that ESC, as plenty of the Castle ones have also gone up in smoke.
Perhaps it was just a faulty one from the start.

Interesting, my ESC is still working pretty well considering it now has the 2200 motor on it.

Well when I run my VXL on the standard gearing and 2s then it seems to run between 150-160F.
Wasn't too happy about it, but I changed the pinion a couple of teeth less and now it seems to max out at...

It's quite a lot of fun to convert as well

I think if one is careful with slipper settings and the amount of cells the drivetrain should hold up ok.

I tried 2 different multimeters, the one was a Fluke.
I was having some issues that the car would just stop responding to the radio that is why I started investigating this....

It would seem my problem went away by itself. Hopefully it doesn't creep back later...

I'm skeptical of the rating of 200A continuous that Traxxas gives, however I'm using a 120A continuous controller with the Castle 2200kV and all seems well.

Well if Traxxas's specs are true then I think the ESC should be fine

Then I need to find a iPhone or iPod as well haha.

Nope it's a ******* 120A short course ESC with a Castle 2200kV.
Just want to see if even other ESCs do it, doesn't necessarily have to be the same brand
