no it does not mean forward only... the reverse rotation is for the erevo... if you look at the erevo one motor is faced opposite of the other which means it has to run reverse...
been running it for about 2 months now.. with an 18/52 gear ratio MOD1. not the 0.8M that is stock... took a little work, running with 4600MAH (cant remember the name, too tired) about 30mins of run...

i would still check the meshing.. the motors could have come loose and moved tighter to the spur gear.. as for the slipper, maybe back it out another 1/4 turn..
one thing to check is that the gear meshing is ok. My brother in law was having the same problem with one battery pack and its coinciding motor was set too tight against the spur... both your motors...

i think in the manual it tells you how to set the gear mesh correctly.. if you dont have the manual, this is the short and skinny of it... take a thin strip of paper and run it through your pinion...
