Building a Summit
Well I did own an ERBE and a Summit now I have a Summit and a Summit to be. I bought and E-Revo some time ago it was 2.4 but had the twin 550, very quickly I put on a 775 then about 3 months ago I bought and installed a Mamba Monster and Spectrum DX3S. I really don’t care for speed was just bored. So here are some photos of the build, I put the Mamba and Spectrum on the shelf(where it will prolly remain for forever) and ordered a Summit transmitter and receiver plus much more. Installed a 2 speed conversion kit into the e-revo transmission. Ordered mostly new parts but used what i could from the e-revo.
The ERBE Striped.
Got some parts intoday.
New chassie with all the linkage.
Transmission installed. A arms servos and got linkage hooked up for two speed.
Now I await the arrival of the rest of my parts. I am still looking at motors. I have the 12v dewalt on my first summit I love it might do the 14.4v but I also received another mamba fan they fit the dewalt motor pretty good. I do not want to run the Mamba as I want to stay brushed.
looks good so far, anything special your thinking of doing?
i see your running the rpm true track rear a arms do they work with out any mods on the summit bulkheads
no acutalt i have the orginal a ams from the e-revo i am going to put on. The RMP trutrace hite the bulkhead and will not let suspension flex properly. I knew this but it is what i have right now so i figgured i will try it. but it is off to the shelf with the Mamba.
Special items prolly 4 wheel steer just as I build it kinda what everr i want to toss in.
Before you go too far I would suggest dyeing the chassis black, the look is amazing. Looks much cleaner and proffessional. Also if you have the 2.4 ghz traxxas tx you will not need the T-Lock device. Good build - I built mine semi from scratch as well, got kinda frustated as I realized all the little parts that I did not have. But was still fun.
If you use the new traxxas 2.4 and 2218 receiver you don't use the T-lock.
oh well got it new in bag for 8 dollars. but i am using the new 2.4 on my other summit and still using the t lock device though so either way but i am gonna check into running with out it guess there is a Y connector so you can still run lights? thanks for the info...
Done a little more. this is for now mostly a stock summit until i decide what motor and other stuff i want to go with. just going to buld it up then make chnges.
this one is kinda out of order but.. here it is
Got this in as well.
how it looks now.
side by side with my other summit
Well got it pretty much done.
Don’t know for sure what motor combo to go with yet so I put back on the Mamba but most of what i do is off road crawling and climbing stuff not rock crawling but climbing and the Mamba just really is not very good for this.. but here is a picture of the pair.
Plans are 4 wheel steering.
Not sure about the body yet that e-revo body kind of looks nice. going to toss the true track suspension and go stock and going to upgrade to some aluminum parts such as rockers and shock mounts shock towers shock caps skid plates.. Going to stay with the plastic a arms though.. More to come another day..
Did not like the tightness of the wires where they pass by the motor mount. Seems to get pinched every time the motor is removed and installed.
So i did this. Looks much better to me.
how come you have two light wires
Just an extra, I run fans on the motor and esc along with the roof light bar.. I can find something to plug into it... *L* the black plug is for the ESC that way when I am cleaning the truck I do not have to go into the receiver box to remove the ESC. I just remove the electrical tape I put on as a dust/water cover and unplug and remove it keeps it simple. Mostly because here in south Alabama humidity is really bad, summer heat index is typically 110 with 80-100% Humidity. Being that my trucks stay in the nice a/c house when I take them outside they tend to build up a lot of moisture so I pull the electronics off every few runs and toss them in a bag of rice
How much did all the parts cost? I want a summit sooo bad but can't really afford one

I already had multi extra servos, extra wheels and tires and extra 17mm blue hubs. I would advise tring to buy a nice used one cause building one can be more expensive than a new one. But you will learn a lot building it. I did it just for the fun of it.
Ok thanks a summit would be a good addition with my stampede
