TQ 2.4GHz - LiPo Mod
With this mod you can use a 3S LiPo battery on the transmitter... I already posted this on the E-Revo Brushless forum, but inside another thread...

First, I opened the TQ, removed the battery holder and the circuit board and removed both wires (red/black) that come from the battery holder...
Then, I soldered a 3S voltage monitor from ********* to those two pads...
And, installed a Futaba male connector where the original wires were before...
I installed everything back in, and put the voltage monitor on the right side of the grip...
And, this is how it looks with the external connector and the LiPo installed... I removed all the springs to make it look better...

I'm getting 20 hours of runtime with this single 3S LiPo battery (1450mAh) and it only weights like 4 NiMh AA batteries... :D

I am thinking of doing this to some AM TQ's. Tired of dealing with 8 heavy nimh cells.
The problem is that ********* is always out of stock of things you really need.
Heads up, don't make this mod with your Traxxas Link TQ 2.4GHz transmitter--it runs on 4 AA cells (6 volts), so a 3S pack will smoke it. A 2S pack (7.4 volts) is also too much.

say you wanted to do it to a traxxas link system, couldnt you put some god resistors in there and bring the voltage down? also, how can you see the light to know when the voltage is low?

It's not the best way, if it can handle 5 volts you can use a BEC... But, the point of this mod was to cut in half the weight of the 8 AA batteries... The 20 hours of run time was a bonus... And, the new TQ 2.4GHz Link already works with 4 batteries...

I have to agree, my radio lasts a really long time even with rechargeable AA's.
Yes, but they weight twice as much if you use 8 of them...
what about a 2s life pack 6.6v will this work or too much still?

Taiyo 20/200w soldering iron with ceramic tip...
If you really want a lipo in your 2.4ghz traxxas link radio, you can simply use an external BEC to regulate the voltage to 6v.
I also did the mod a couple months back to my normal 2.4ghz TQ. I love the weight improvement and extended usage without charging :)

Looks like a winner I will get one on order today and report back. The only part I have to replace is the outer plastic part that holds the antenna to the case.

This mod is for THE OLDER normal TQ - 2 channels (was included in my minirevo; it is with retractile antenna and has 8 AA stilos batteries)
or for the NEW TQ 2,4 one with small antenna??

It's for any transmitter that uses 8 AA batteries...
It will not work on the new TQ Link 2.4Ghz that comes with the Slash 4x4...

Since peak voltage of a AA alkaline battery is 1.72v or so, Link TQ 2.4GHz can handle 4.88 volts or so without a problem, right? So a total of 1.7v*4=6.8volts.
So would using 6.6v LiFePo4 which would have a peak voltage of 7.2v. Would this be safe to use with this radio?
