New member here!
I picked up a new brushless e revo.It came with 2 -7 cell nmih batts.what gearing can i run without the risk of damaging the esc/motor?I would like a bit more top speed till i can afford some 4s lipos. Thanks

Stock gearing is all you can use with nimhs- 18/65 I believe, do not use the optional spur ( 54 or 58t ) and do not use a larger pinion either until you get your lipos.

Once you get a nice matching pair or 2s lipos ( ~30-40c 5000mah or so ) you can safely gear up to around 24/65, though 20-22/65 may be better depending on how hard you drive and the terrain etc.

thanks again

Yep, the castle link or field link makes adjusting the settings vastly easier compared to doing it via the radio- about $20-25 and well worth it.

Or get 3s batteries and have alot more fun.

And alot more broken driveline parts / destroyed truck depending on user experience / ability and terrain; learn to walk before you run... :)

yes Castle link. AOD has a really good link on how to use it. Start with 2/2s then move up to 2/3s

Make sure the batt fit. Do some home work before buying batts.

A few of the batts to look at.... google is your friend can't give you links RULE #11

MY BATTS:
2S 8000 x 28C = 224,000 divide 1000 = 224 amps
3S 5200 x 40C = 208,000 divide 1000 = 208 amps

The more amps the better / minimun of 120 amps.

Higher the mAh the longer the runtime.

8000 mAh about 45 min & a 5000 mAh about 30 min.

Batts in series double the voltage:
2x 2s 20c 5000mah = 4s 20c 5000mah

Batts in parrallel double the mah capacity:
2x 2s 20c 5000mah = 2s 20c 10,000mah.

No one knows yet, 'soon'.

And read your manual & the links I posted above; it is the first thing you should do to understand how it works & saves time asking questions since you have the answers already. ;)

im going to take your advice and start with 2- 2s lipos. After reading the caslt link guide states that the low voltage cut out should be set for 6v for 2s lipos is this correct?

No- read it more carefully; with the old firmware ( v1.24 ) the auto-lipo setting of the LVC is 3.0v per cell which is considered too low, you should use the custom setting and set it for 3.2-3.4v per cell ideally ( higher setting wont shorten runtime by much really at all, experiment a little ). With the newer firmware versions ( v1.32 ) the auto lipo setting is 3.2v which is fine, just turn on the lvc option and set it to auto lipo.

Just bare in mind the advisory about firmware versions and throttle issues- if you try the latest firmware and you have the low-speed glitching, you'll know what to do
