Hi all, just been trawling through these great forums now I am the owner of the MERV. Really happy with it apart from a few little niggles.

Being a n00b to the RC world, some of the stuff in these topics goes a bit over my head. Im trying to see what I can do to make the car more stable in turns and not flip at the slightest hint of any power until its fully turned round.
Was looking at better springs on shocks ie to keep the car low, but stiffer.
Also Im only running mainly the stock battery and have noticed a bit of tire ballooning, would this be ideal to fix to improve handling or not bother?

Any other basic cheap tips would be appreciated.

Setting the trucks ride height lower, usually so the suspension arms are level with the ground helps lower COG and make it more stable.

By far the biggest thing you can do to make it more stable and less likely to flip in turns is to widen the stance of the truck. The easiest way to do this is with a differnt rim with more offset. I recommend using the Traxxas #7171 dish rim with your choice of tires, I like the ProLine Dirt Hawg tires but any 2.2" Buggy tire will fit these rims.

I have had great control with black and tan springs (black in rear)
And 40/70 shock oil (front/rear)
I also have 2.2" tires
and ballooning is normal

There are a few ways to stop the ballooning...

Before the tire is glued: search for "taping" tires.
After the tire is glued: tie fish string (or something similar) around the tread.

You could also get a widener like these:

Wheel Widener 1 (http://www.thetoyz.com/cart/thetoyz_details.lasso?id=12893&cat_name=MINI%201/16%20REVO#)

Wheel Widener 2 (http://www.thetoyz.com/cart/thetoyz_details.lasso?id=13246&cat_name=MINI%201/16%20REVO)

If you want the merv for smooth/even ground racing then lower the ride height and widen the stance by Traxxas #7171 dish rim or a set of proline titus bead loks and proline dirthawg tires. I went with the proline setup which is heavier but also helps with keeping the wheels on the ground.

Thanks for tips. Ordered some new springs to see how they go, then it's new rims and tires when I get back from hols.

Heavier differential oil, or just making sure the diffs have some oil since they leak.

Get a center differential too :)
