Hi guys im new to all this So sorry of the long post.: so here go's got a new revo 3.3 #5309 brake in went perfict. During my first half gallon it went really good nice smoke trail good take off even popping wheelies, idleing good starting straight away everything was perfict. Now during my second half gallon all went down hill from there. I hardly even got too adjust my needles it didnt hold a tune dosent idle at all i go to factory settings and nothing. Tryed everthing new plug new fuel air leak test is good clutch and spring is good. So then i pulled the back plate off head off and took the piston & sleave out and the piston is broken on one side so i sent it to Traxxas. Now my question is this seeing its only 1 1/2 gallons old do yous think Traxxas will rebuild it or replace it? :

Yeah, but I don't think I'd say 1.5 gallons.

We could sit here and debate if they will replace the engine or not, most of the time it seems they do--as a courtesy--but they will do their investigation into why it failed first. 1.5 gallons is a bit of use.

Then you've burned though a "Gallon" of fuel, 1/2(0.50) of a gallon is half of one gallon.

If Traxxas replace or not the engine is only at their own consideration. As DoubleG said sometimes they do it for courtesy. ½ + ½ gallon = 1 gallon and that is enough fuel burned. The main question here is why your piston got broken. 90% of the time the cause of an early broken piston is running lean. How looks the conrod and the engine bearings?

You can ruin an engine in 1-2 tanks. Seen it happen many times.

Just remember, Traxxas does not have a specific warranty on their TRX engines....

IF Traxxas replaces an engine, it's out of 100% courtesy, they don't have to do it.

Now if the engine sent to Traxxas shows obvious signs of being ran lean or out of tune (you can tell with a visual inspection of the engine), then I have seen Traxxas say NO after the engine was sent in. But it's rare, usually they do replace the engine on most cases I've seen.

Just keep in mind,,,, They do this as a courtesy and not because they have to. That's Customer Service for you.

OK thanks guys, But as far as the lean settings go like i said before i never really got a chance to set my needles from factory settings so they were always more on the rich side if anything I've only richend the HSN 1/8 so im safe to say that it was NOT LEAN. thanks guys

BY the way Nitronaught how can you tell if its run lean by an inspection like i said im new to all this stuff

Any word on yours yet? I'm in the process of talking to traxxas tech support for reasons similar to yours. (Not the broken piston) but similar simptoms with no change to the factory tune.

I haven't sent the engine back, but if I can't get the tuning right thats next on the list.

as a reminder, my lsn and hsn are now much richer than the traxxas factory settings, so saying that those settings are "rich" isnt always true. then again i live in michigan, lol

Needles at factory settings are just a starting point for tuning. It’s not meaning anyway a richer or leaning (in regular circumstances is on the rich side but not always) remember that this is a huge Planet with hundreds of countries with different weathers and geographical conditions and tuning settings are as variable as they are.

Hey, don't forget that the U.S. gallon is only 3.7 litres where as the imperial gallong is 4.4 litres.
