Ahhh well time to upgrade to bigger and better electrics.

Oh man....one after the other. At least it's covered..now do u have to pay 20 for a new one or is it covered 100 percent cause it's so new? Makes me want to wait a couple months and cancel mine now....we need some positive comments on the Spartan, other than jpriamis success but he changed it all.

Sorry that happened. Did you ever experience problems with the motor still running a little after you release the throttle? Btw my lipos are 45C packs.

The same thing happened to my esc while I was bench testing about two weeks ago it I was using 3s 5000mah 45c lipos as well, Traxxas has my esc now since I sent it back asap, and I received a update that it and the motor were replaced I called them to double check what I was using was ok and they said no prob, Im pretty scared to put this system back in my hull since I almost caught my basement on fire

my boat is at the boat doctor getting a new castle esc put in, and a pair of water pick ups put in underneath the belly of the boat.
maybe a new motor aswell just waiting to hear the verdict.
Wow! not a single expletive. Just a wisp of smoke screen right.

if these esc are catching fire like this, there is a potential for serious injury.
especially with lipo batteries involved.
and what happened to the overheating cut out why didn't that cut in before this?
and i can say appart from the cooling jacket and lipo's the rest of my boat was running stock
any ideas anyone???
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

What JPriami meant was, what was the history of the esc; how many thermals, packs, any short lvc's.
It's obvious that the center motor lead off the board had a bad joint or melted down and overheated the board.

I spoke with Traxxas today and they are sending equipment back today they replaced the esc and motor I asked how I can be assured that this won't happen again they said they were aware of the issue but they have not changed anything yet
I doubt its going back in my boat Im not sure if I trust it

The more I think about this burnt esc the more I'm thinking that there was a bad solder joint on one of the motor leads to the esc?

Very Possible, as soon as i plugged in my boat I had no motor. I tried my 2 cell and 3 cell lipos and nothing. I left my 2 cell lipos in and held trigger WOT. then the prop moved a little like it wanted to go but only like 1 second every ten seconds i had the trigger sqeezed. Then I installed by 3 cell lipos and it did the same thing except maybe tried to spin once every 5 seconds and the BOOM!!!! and a nice big cloud of smoke............GAME OVER!!!! maybe i should e-mail traxxxas and when they put a new esc in my boat they should open it and check soldering joints.

great, now ill always be on eggshells while running the boat and wonder if it will blow again and if its in the water and i cant disconnect the batteries right away there could be alot more damage and possibly a 6S explosion. THAT WOULD BE BAD!! I didnt see flames, hopefully they just smoke when they fry and no big flames

Wow, I really think that was it!
I would put money on it that the esc had a bad solder joint

Guys, I'm making an effort to devote time to the message boards each day. If you see (or are on) a thread that you feel needs my attention, please send me a link at pvieira(at)traxxas.com. Thanks in advance!
If you have any type of speed control or motor problem, please do call 888-Traxxas so we'll be aware of it and can do whatever is appropriate in your case to support you. It's a case-by-case thing (some customers just plain abuse their gear), but Traxxas keeps it pretty square and we tend to err on the side of the customer. The input you give us helps us build better products, and we appreciate the feedback.
