View Full Version : Purchasing a new Traxxas E-Revo please help

I am wanting a E-Revo yet I am looking to get speeds of 45 to 50 mph..
The E-revo brushless is $641.00 and $430.00 brushed at tower hobbies
Which would come out cheaper and reaching the speeds I want?
I got all the Lipo's battery's and charger already

Brushless would be cheaper in reaching your wanted speeds. Plus you'll get the 17mm hubs which is recommended if you go 6s (which I'm assuming you're going to go for).

yes 3s.. I got two 5000mah 3s battery packs ready to go.. I am going to do some price shopping on E-Revo

The brushed erevo wont do much over 30mph anyway, so the brushless version is the only option ( so far as RTR goes.. ).
What lipos do you have exactly ( cell count, mah & C rating )?..

Forgive me if I'm wrong - it sorta sounds like max speed is a goal. Specifically 45-50 mph is aiming awfully low "if" max speed is intent . . . . with the packs you specify, you should be able to knock on 65 mph with some minor gearing tweaks - easy. I don't have a radar gun but I'm running Thunderpower 5300mAh 2S 65C 22/56 gearing and "think" I'm getting pretty close to 65 and that's with 2s. . . with brushless.
So with 3s (I'm like "ArmyofDarkness" -curious of the specifics of your packs - some don't fit....) - I suspect you can run lights out. But he is also right - Brushless is only rtr option. Brushed E REVO is a GREAT little car for racing like a short course set-up and bashing etc - but won't achieve the speeds you specify - well, not without burning up the motor trying anyway.

21/54 gear 2 x 2s 8000 28c = gps of 47.1 mph

LOL I didn't think that math added up. 65 is crazy fast for RC car, pretty much any RC car.
I would still say you have to go brushless, however if price is a concern you may be able to do it cheaper using a brushed revo and adding a cheaper bl system from one of the importers.

....sorry it was late, need coffee - that's what ai got in her now...."think" was 24/46 or there abouts. Last summer - heck I can't remember yesterday let alone last summer. My box of spurs and pinion's is so dang disorganized I can't tell whats what from one minute and truck to the next. And like I said, didn't have a gun and LOL - I said "think". Buddy said he was running 60-65 and I was keeping up is all I know. And 47 ain't exactly slow in my book. Dude said he wanted to run 45-50 - that 47.1 if it was nailed it with ease....
I got an Integy 40 tooth spur that the teeth barely meet my 24 tooth pinion that I ordered this winter - bought a Tekin RX8 / T8 TT 2310 2650KV on a Kershaw Designs 2.5" stretch that accepts the 3s thicker Thunderpower 65c packs. Bought a gun from LHS. Bet - I will top 65mph this spring... You're right, thats stupid fast. But I'm stupid. Will start build thread directly.

Knight81- according to this gearing calculator (which is pretty accurate and a handy tool).-
Your top speed is just under 47mph with the set up you posted (using stock erbe info), now I know it "feels" fast but 65 is like mentioned above just crazy fast for any rc. Sure can be done in the erbe pretty easily but definately not on 4s. I though mine was pushing 50+ on 4s geared 18/54 when I first got the truck though so I get how easy it is to overestimate speeds....
Anyways I agree on the op being better off starting with an erbe rather than the brushed e revo. If the price tag is too steep on brand new just shop around the forums a little bit. I picked up my erbe for well under that 640$ tag in nearly new condition but with hundreds $$$ in upgrades and extras+ Slayden steering mods. Point is if you find a good clean truck you can make out a lot better for a lot less $$$ than buying new.

well I obviously did something wrong cause I got 105.7 MPH and like 177 KPH....;-(. And a bunch of warnings. Imagine that! I will play with it some more. Thanks for showing me that. I will figure it out.
And hey, you guys are the experts. Who am I, some noob to argue with the experts on this board.
Sorry. Didn't mean to cause trouble.

Ha that's funny your getting 100+ on that calculator, it can be a little confusing at first but you'll figure it out. I ususally (depending on the voltage/gearing and type of tires) add between .25-.75 for tire balooning and have also found that by entering a little higher per cell voltage- like 3.9- I come out with more accurate results for top speed on a near fully charged set of packs.
Anyways don't be sorry you did nothing to be sorry about, like I said its very easy to overestimate speeds with this beast. If you do ever set it up to hit those crazy 65+ speeds it will feel like 100....
BTW- if I'm an expert than guys like MC, AOD and BrianG are gods... I know a few things but am in no way an expert. It depends on the topic- many that have been hoppin around the forums for a while still need a little de-nubification (as AOD likes to call it :) ) from time to time.
