Because the speed pinion is 31 tooth. And the stock is 28 i believe.. So what do i do? Run the stock?

you have to install the speed pinion or it will get overheated.

I'm pretty sure this is wrong. Installing the "speed pinion" (31 tooth) will make the car go faster. However you will also heat up the motor more. you want to avoid hitting 200deg F. I check temps with a infrared gadget made by duratrax, aprox $20.

Also, going to 3s FROM stock nimh or 2S lipo will heat the motor more even if you do NOT gear up. Gearing up adds to the heat problem.

For awhile, I was using 3s a lot because I have 3s batteries from a heli that I could use. For me, 3s without gearing up is plenty of speed. Because of the heat issue on 3s, i was gearing DOWN with still riduculous amounts of speed. this reduced the heat buildup.

i have just looked at both pinions and the speed one is bigger. but many who have used the bigger one have had problems. but with my revo the speed pinion was smaller than the stock one. so what is going on.

without going into it to much the stock pinion should be used with 2 packs and the speed one should be used with one pack or 2 in parallel

even the 1/16 slash has a smaller speed pinion.

the manual, on page 24 and 25, states that 28tooth pinion is stock and the 31 tooth pinion is "speed".

You do not "NEED" to use the 31 tooth pinion when you increase voltage to go faster (going 2s to 3s). YOU WILL go faster simply because of the voltage increase. The trade off is that you motor gets hotter. For even MORE speed, you could use the 31 tooth pinion, but that also increases your temps.

Because I was running 3s so much and didnt want so much speed or high temps, I geared DOWN (had to buy , didnt come in kit). I think I had a 21 tooth pinion, which was slower than the 31 and 28t pinions, respectively, but ran cooler. the 3s and 21 tooth pinion was still much faster than 2s and 28tooth pinion.

but the rally manual is saying gear up when using series. but the revo and slash say it the other way round. so i cant really see what the difference is between the slash and the rally.

maybe its a mistake from the revo an slash gearing. because im sure the stock pinion is what you ned to run 3s with

between going 30mph and 50mph with the second nimh battery

general rule of thumb, volt up, gear down

+1
Would also like yo know about this. I have a series connector + 2 battle buy haven't used speed yet. Would only use it every so often.

gear down as the manual seems to be at fault.
