Dear Traxxas,
myself and others are having issuse with this boat the main issue is that its over heating on lipo packs and secondly it does not do 50mph as advertised.

i personally can deal with the speed issue but myself do not accept the overheating issue and something needs to be done. as i live in Australia i do not particularly want to ship it back to the states.
so i will ask every one here to post if they are having this issue along with there boats serial number and see how many are having this issue. im not bagging traxxas in anyway shape or form, i just want a decent out come and a resolution to this.

I completely agree.
I bought my spartan just after christmas. I have only been able to run it a few times and I've already noticed some
overheating. Traxxas really should have done more testing. As for a resolution, if they fix the problem, they "should" offer a free
upgrade or retrofit to all spartan owners.

So this is a petition to Traxxas due to overheating issues of the motor (I see the owner of the thread meant to say "motor" and not "lipos")? I hope things works out.

I've been checking the website everyday for when this boat is going to be available. Due to this issue, I've seen it reported here and multiple websites, I will have to wait to see how Traxxas responds.

I wonder if an ESC with higher Amp can do the trick or if the motor will also need to be replaced.

I still would like to purchase one. With this overheating issue I too am going to wait until Traxxas takes care of the problem. Besides that, eveything is still frozen solid here. No new boat until spring.

this is still a RTR product that should not have a new owner having to upgrade parts just to make is run longer than a couple minutes

I totally agree that's disgusting and also after 8 months of late delivery

He said "on" lipo, not "the" lipos. I think that it was implied that the motor was overheating while running on LiPo, most likely 5s/6s.

I agree the boat should run as advertised out of the box... To spend several hundred on batteries makes it even worse. I can increase the water flow, but will this void the extended warranty on the motor and speed control. I can do the work that traxxas should have done, I have electrical and mechanical engineers and a large machine shop, but most are not as fortunate. I can make it work, but if a motor or speed control goes, traxxas should show some customer support and replace them...I will keep you posted on the results...

i had the same problem but upgraded and when the new electronics came in i sent them to traxxas and they replaced them free of charge just like they always do i understand that it is frustrating but as long as they stand behind there product i will be a customer but i do totally understand when you spend 400 dollars for a boat you expect it to be as advertized and not have to send your stuff in every time you run and in wilsta case shipping has got to cost alot and take a long time to get back im in the overheating and failing group the first run so serial #A1670841:cool:

Nope I did it before it even hit the water! Rc boating is no different than planes choppers or cars. They break all the time, cost a lot to fix, and always need mods. If you want a boat that never breaks and all you do is put batteries in and go??? Go to wal-mart and get one! But don't expect to do 50+mph rtr you are obviously an experienced Rc person I've seen your videos so you def know what I mean. And the customer service is awesome at traxxas! So it costs 20 bucks to ship it back, they fix it!!! Buy a helo have a bearing fail, crash it , and call the company they will laugh at you.just saying it's not as bad as some people are making it out to be

I'm not sure why this old thread got resurrected.
This was started in reference to the old V1 system that had no business pushing a hull of this size for more than 4min.
Added cooling only served to defeat the temp fail-safe and eventually the system will fail.

The new systems have no issue("V2" Castle motor/Traxxas esc, "V3" Castle motor and esc) moving the hull to speed without heat issues. Other than initial defect of the units, or large mechanical issues.

Most of the mechanical issues come from the drive line; alignment, construction, lubrication.
