I am getting poor throttle response.. It studders when I hit the throttle.. I just changed out the pinion gear.. The truck rolls freely, but do you think the gears are just not meshing right.. I am not getting any clanking noise.. I also changed out the VXL-3 after my original one fried..

GoTo Page 16 in your manual and re-calbr8 your ESC. It wouldn't hurt to pop off your gear cover and watch how it rolls. Also, if the motor spins okay but the drive shaft doesn't seem to then remove the slipper assy and double check the drive hub set screw, mine constantly got loose until I used thread lock.

this happen to me yesterday when messing with pinions your mesh is to tight put a piece of paper between the mesh and tight it

Mesh could be too tight... Also, do you hear any squealing? Could your slipper be too loose?

I dont have any squealing.. I will try putting a piece of paper between the gears.. Thanks for all of your help..

I got it a little better, but i just cant seem to get the mesh right.. I dont know if i should try and play with the slipper.. Do you think changing the pinion gear may of made the slipper need to be adjusted..?

No just changing the pinion wouldn't effect the slipper plus the slipper being too loose or too tight wouldn't make it studder I would triple check the mesh and re-calibrate the esc like stated above.

Well I tried everything and finally I just put the stock pinion gear back on and everything is fine now.. The optional pinion gear that came with the truck must be bad.. Maybe the tolerances are off.
I put the optional pinion gear that came with my 2wd pede and that one is running great..

Do you know what the number of teeth is on that pinion you put in your truck off your 2wd? What battery might you be running? All I can think is if your battery don't have enough power to pull the high gearing in the terrain your in it would act sluggish.

Both trucks came with an optional 17 tooth pinion gear.. The 2wd it went on with no probs.. I used 8.4v NIMH 3000 battery on both trucks.. Maybe your right and I should try my 9.6v NIMH 5000 or 3s 11.1v Lipo on the 4wd truck..
When I got a rolling start it takes off perfect..

hey i know what your talking about its kind of like the cogging feeling, it just lasts alot longer and it wont pick up speed right away like it did before? i think its the battery, I used my stock 3300 traxxas battery and after a while it started doing that! I put my lipo in and it stopped, oh and i was also using a 16 tooth pin when it happened! this was the first time it happened to me though and I've been using this pinion for a while! It might also be something in the Esc my old Esc that was on my rustler did it to, but it did that for a long time and to my knowledge that Esc is still working fine!
