Got the call from HobbyTown while I was at work....got it home and first thoughts were "holy smokes, this thing is huge", and "wow, it's snowing outside" Anyway, got the decals put on, and can't wait to run it....are people still having overheating issues?

Congrats! I think some are having problems. Not everyone tho. And honestly I think some come here and post because they have a problem. And most that don't have trouble don't bother coming here because they are not the ones looking for answers.

From what pics I see it's traxxas logos, exhaust outlets, maybe air scoops? I'm sure some others I haven't seen yet.

I agree, that is pretty common on all forums.

Like Justin said, exhaust outlest, inlet vents, a bunch of Traxxas and Spartan decals, a couple of hatch decals and that's really about it...

As long as your watering hole isn't frozen over, there's no excuse for not driving your boat! I've been R/C boating in just about everything...rain, snow, ... heck, I've done it with partially frozen over bodies of water! Be warned, though...retrieving a boat stranded on top of the ice is tricky...that has happened to me twice!
Happy boating!

that would suck getting it stuck in ice....

It does. The first time it happened was on the maiden voyage of my first Villain back in '02. I had a very limited space to drive the boat due to the fact that the only open water was from the bubbler system installed on my parent's dock/boat lifts. I just climbed on one of the lifts and was able to reach it with a pole.
The second time, my Villain had to be rescued with a kayak. Fun times... lol!

Hey Shaun
Did you see this vid? Skip to 0:40 (oohh) and then see how he gets his spartan back to shore.
Have to get one of those $25 walmart rc boats and make something like this just in case. Never know running 6S :)

I use a kayak. That's the safest way, in my opinion. Other people use fishing poles with tennis balls, etc.

that video shows a great reason to tape the hatch

What's the best way to attach a tennis ball to my fishing pole?

Just curious how a tennis ball on the end of fishing line would work in the video above. I could see it if the boat was upside down with the prop and rudder visible for the line to get caught in.
Another thing is what if you flip the boat and you can't cast the ball far enough.
Im sure through trial and error we are going to see some very inventive ways to get these boats back to shore safely.

I have seen people add hooks to the bow of their boats to give them something to snag.

Taping the hatch on this boat isn't as easy as most boat. Look at the pictures posted of any spartan an you will find that two areas of the hatch hang over the rear of the boat. I think this helps the boat funnel off water that gets on the hatch. Unless you tape those areas (which may prove difficult or use a lot of tape), i think all spartans will end up like that video if you flip them.

its not that bad to tape the hatch on these
I'm going to use some lightweight foam strip on the back of mine under the hatch, so the back part I do not have to tape up, and it will seal up good

your right, a tennis ball on my fishing reel would not have worked on this one
I have a Rio ep tha I use to get my boats back to shore that are to far for me to throw the tennis ball to
