just picked up a new stampede, grabbed an integy charger, and 5400 3s lipo battery. Ive ran the truck a couple of times, but somehow managed to snap an axle today. Are there any driveline/u-joint upgrades available?

There are cvd sets available, but you can probably avoid that kind of damage with a looser slipper setting. That part could also have just been a defect. I would replace with a cheap stock piece and adjust the slipper first before dropping $50 on a set of cvds

Thanks for the quick reply.. do you know where I can get stock replacements and aftermarket BULLETPROOF CVD sets?

Unfortunately the weakest link on most of the 1/10 grasses vehicles are the driveshafts. And, there really aren't any "bulletproof" upgrade parts availiable that are much better than the stock parts. Loosen off your slipper a bit, get a set of traxxas steel outdrives and be prepared to replace a driveshaft every now and then.

that happened with my 2x4 VXL a few times too. I just buy some new cheap traxxas pieces and hope it doesn't happen again.

Pave, does traxxas offer steel outdrives for the 4x4, or will the 2wd outdrives fit?

thanks everyone. Are these the ones youre talking about from traxxas?

I'll just buy a few sets of them for the toolbox if thats the best ones available.

you can buy these >CVD's< (http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXAAVF&P=ML) i know they are a lot of money but they are as close to bullet poof as you can get (they pretty much are bullet proof)

and the front set http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXAAVG&P=ML

I think they only fit the 2wd, but not sure.

Did not realize these were sliders. May have to look into them. Hate to pay $120 for drive shafts...

A caution: believe those "outdrives" aka "output yokes" are made for the 2WD trucks. The drivetrains have been significantly (and necessarily) upgraded for the 4x4 trucks. 2WD parts on the left of each pic, 4x4 on the right.

I don't think an upgrade designed for one will work perfectly with the other.
2WD : 6.5mm ball, 1.9 mm posts.
4x4 : 8.0 mm ball, 2.5mm posts.

Wow... thanks KSB... thats some interesting info for sure. The 4X4 parts look MUCH stronger. What about using the 2X4 slider end on the tranny side and the 4X4 end on the wheel side? Do you think the 2X4 steel outdrives would be stronger than the beefed up plastic 4X4 parts?

What about using the tekno rear setup for the 4x4 slash? Id like to know if this will work because i dont want to have this thing and these break. Anyone?

I emailed Tekno asking them. Ill let you guys know what they say.

I think the biggest issue is that the 2WD u-joint (or steel yoke u-joint) will be too narrow from end of post to end of post. You can see from the first pic that if the u-joint reaches from outside to outside of the 2WD yoke, then it will not quite reach halfway into the ears of the 4x4 yoke. Besides, I run my Slash 4x4 (same drivetrain parts) like I stole it and I haven't broken a yoke yet. Just get the slipper setting right, and you should be fine.

There is no way in heck I would pay that kind of money for those pieces. The only reason I would pay that much is if I was rich =D IMO its simply not worth it and you can buy A LOT of cheap replacements for that kind of money and they will work just as good. And if everything is set right they won't even break, and if they do it will be very seldom...

Nailed it. 4x's running truggy wheels may need the xcvd's, but with smaller, lighter mt combo's, the stockers are durable enough.

Now there is the understatement of the year and I have photos for proof.

The tekno's should fit fine since the slash 4x4 uses the same part number as the stampede 4x4.
The mip x duties should fit fine too.

Well I ordered the hardened steel ones, before I read ya'lls replies here. Oh well. Maybe I can use them on something one day. Also, I took one of the front shafts out and put it in the broken rear shaft spot. so I would at least have Rear Wheel Drive. Only having Front wheel drive sucked... lol

So I found out the hard way that only rear wheel drive does NOT stop as well as 4WD.. so now I also have a broken front A-arm guard, bent shock, and cracked front a-arm.. geeze..

So I guess the RPM Slash A-arms are the same right? I'll order those this week.. and does anyone know where I can get stock shocks for this thing? or at least a slight upgrade? Im going to hit up the hobby shop in OKCity, OK Wednesday.. Hopefully they have an idea of what else might fit this thing.

Thanks for the help on this guys.

i did almost the same crash x 2 i broke my RPM arms. You can put all slash 4x4 parts on the front i have seen this and have them on order for my truck.

I had steel output drives on a 4x2 slash. I took them off and they slide into the female 4x4 part. I haven't had any problems this setup. Works great no broken parts. I run the Novak SC 5.5 on 3s with a tight slipper. They work very well.

does the drive shaft have any play in it front to back? i snapped mine right at the very front, have a 2 whell drive for the time being, but can a just take out the broken peice and move it up into the front and tighten it back down again? or do i need a new shaft?
