View Full Version : What is the torque of the 2080 servo?

Does anyone know how much torque the #2080 Rally servo has ?
Does is seem to be enough to you guys? (My Rally is in the mail on the way right now.) Would a servo upgrade be a good idea, or is it not too necessary?

As found on the Rally webpage: http://www.traxxas.com/products/models/electric/7307rallyvxl-details

Sorry. After I looked on the "Specs" page and did not see the info there, I didn't think something that specific would have been on the "Details page". Guess I was wrong.
Does this servo seem strong enough for this car? Could it use an upgrade?

Waterproof Digital Micro Servo
• 41.7 oz-in torque
• Transit time 0.11 sec/60°
Digital High-Torque Waterproof Steering Servo
Small but powerful, the Rally's 2080 servo cranks out 41.7 oz.-in. of tire-turning torque with digital circuitry for responsive steering and precise control as you slide through turns. Waterproof, o-ring-sealed construction locks out moisture, dirt, and debris.

My stock servo's gears stripped out in the first few days I had the car. My friends servo just froze out of nowhere. I would say our cars are well used (not abused), so it was sort of unexpected. I would say go ahead and upgrade the servo just so you don't have problems down the line. I replaced the gears and I am still using the stock servo. He got a hitec metal geared upgrade. His seems to steer better than mine, but there are a lot of variables to consider (he has a different servo horn length, his controller is setup differently, etc.), so I can't say for sure that I couldn't get similar results with the stock servo.

Since these cars are very similar to the 1/16 Revo and Slash (especially this one), check out that forum to see what the common complaints are and go with their recommendations for upgrades. I have heard that the Traxxas servos are a weak point (along with a few other items).

i run a hitec hs85 in my merv.... may not be as fast as stock, or as powerful, but it is close, and it has ball bearings and metal gears. i abuse the heck out of it. also it is analog..... i stripped out my stock servo

The cool part about the traxxas servo is that its waterproof. If i need more torque i'll probly just get a second one.
