Does anyone have a better way to mount the Castle Sidewinder ESC? I have had it ziptied to the chassis for the longest time, and was just wondering if there was a kit or something that mounted it in the stock location...it is very difficult to make a plate or something to hold it down to the factory location because of the heatsink fins on the top...

I used traxxas double sided tape. Got a stampede rpm esc mount and re-drilled holes to fit the stock mount. the trx servo tape is very good and I did not need to zip tie it.
EDIT: You must remove the label from the bottom of the esc before applying the tape, or the label will rip and the esc will come off.

I am looking for something a bit more substantial than just double-stick tape. I feel that with my luck that thing would be unstuck and broken/ripped off on the first run...

I have cartwheeled for 50 ft from 50 mph. The trx servo tape may be the strongest part on the truck lol. Seriously. Only comes unstuck when I want it to. I dont run in wet conditions though.

I use a piece of lexan drilled the holes and then used 3m trim tape from autozone. Drill holes in lexan to secure with screws to chassis

I would hope you don't, the sidewinder is not waterproof.

Anyways, since 2 of you now have suggested that solution, then I guess i will have to go with it :)

All Castle Creations ESCs come with a coating on the board making them water resistant, so running in wet conditions with them is pretty safe. I personally use Shoe Goo/Amazing Goop to mount everything, it's the strongest thing I've used.

As you say "pretty safe," I just want to remind everyone that the Castle ESC's are water RESISTANT (as they told me) not water PROOF...so don't plan on going under water with this thing (I learned the hard way >.< )

I made a plate from aluminum and used servo tape, I've used Shoe-Goo before. Both are bullet proof. With the servo tape you can cut it so that you have an edge so that the you can pry off what ever you have binded together.

Okay, I kinda combined all of your ideas...I cut a piece of lexan to the right size, painted it so it was pretty, and stuck the thing down to it...I even made the switch look good by putting it in the front edge of the lexan

Thanks everyone :)

Okay, here are the pics of the lexan mounting plate I fabricated for my sidewinder to mount to my new chassis.

I think it came out pretty good, if I do say so myself :D

Be careful that the weight of the switch "arm" does not turn itself off during hard impacts. Great idea with the switch mount!

That switch is pretty hard to flip (as far as switches go at least), so if I crashed hard enough to flip it to the off position, I will probably have other problems :D Additionally, the picture shows the switch in the "on" position, so I would have to crash going backwards :)

And thanks, I tried notching the lexan the first time to mount the factory Sidewinder switch, but it didn't really work out so well, so I soldered on a new switch that mounted in a hole instead.

Nice work. Pics look great and I never would've thought about soldering a different style switch.
