I got the Villan kit and i love it, but i want some more speed. I want to keep the MSC, yet still ugrade stuff. Can i put props on it and keep the MSC? Does anyone know if i could put the rebuildable Reedy Stock motors in it and if that would help? Can you mess with them and change the timing around?

Sorry about all the questions, but i'm new to boats

Hey,
I dont know much about the MSC (Mechanical Speed Control???????) but i would say it is safe to put on the Berrilium X447s. Call Traxxas they will tell you for sure and also provide answers to any other questions you miqht have. 1-888-traxxas

thanks, yea i meant mechanical speed control
i guess i should have written it out. Are there any good websites that have alot of stuff on the villan, besides CChase's?

You can't use any new stock motors with the Villain. All the new ones have been made tamper-proof by making the can have flat sides, which makes messing with the timing impossible. Go for the Speed Gems or Reedy Sonic motors -- but these will require much better SC's than any MSC.

Thanks CChase, i didn't realise that about the motors because i run only mods in my cars. I've heard that Tekin is going out of buisness and was wondering if that speed control you mentioned in one of the other topics would still be a wise purchase.

tekin marine somthing?

I would get an ESC. If you upgrade to hotter motors, the MSC will probably burn up.

i can't really spent alot of money on the boat, as it is more of somthing to fool around with . I saw some electric plane ESC's on Towerhobbies's site and was maybe considering one of them but i'm not sure.

I'll let you answer the one about the plane ESC chase, but I always think the first hop up should be an ESC.

its better if you use a car or boat ESC, coz plane esc's cannot take too much stress!

Plane ESC's will work fine, as long as they are rated to handle the kind of current draw (with the stock motors its about 150 amps) and voltage.

pooycow is right, though. The best thing to do would be to get a car/boat ESC. Sorry, but the Tekin 432M is already discontinued.

The Novak makes a marine I think, and Novak is a good company. They are a little pricey, but you get what you pay for. I wouldnt recommend keeping the MSC. I had one once, and I hated it. As soon as an ESC was in there it was a compltely different car.

The Novak Super Rooster isn't a marine ESC but it works well with the Villain and has no motor limit even with two motors wired in series.

I saw a guy at my hobby shop who had a water cooled ESC. He had pipes going all around it.

You can do that for about $30. Just buy the Villain water cooling system for the motors and then integrate into that another Blast water cooling system and drill holes through the heat sink and then wire some of the steel tubing through that. I've seen people with this set-up and the ESC's are cool to the touch after 2 hard runs. http://www.traxxas.com/ubb/smile.gif

Thanks for the input, i was considerng the plane ESC's because they are really small.

Why would you get them because they are small? Get whats best for you.

VillainRacer is right; the airplane ESC's are not only small but they are cool-running and inexpensive for what they can handle with ease.

my thoughts exactly, small and able to handle some pretty good motors
