Sorry to you bandwidth challenged surfers, but I have cut croped and compressed these to ease your pain.
Training always begins with weight loss.
Color me bad:

It was a fun project.
I can say this, the Aluminum parts are a LOT lighter than I mentally was prepared for them to be.
Initially I didn't want all aluminum cuz of weight considerations, but now I see it isn't that big a deal, and the thing still RIPS, in fact I think it was rippin better then ever, but.....it has been about 6 weeks since I drove, so....it might be my imagination!
In any case, I think I will add the aluminum front parts down the road.
Wanna know the real irony of the whole project?
If you remember my post when I first ordered the RD stuff, I said it all started cuz I needed a front tie bar....well....guess what?
The tie bar is the only thing that I didn't put on!!!!
Seems the right front hinge pin is bent...pretty badly...badly enough for me to not be able to get the tie bar over both pins.
BTW here's the one "busted" photo link.
I tried to edit it in the original post, but Traxxas apparently has a limit on the number of img tags allowed in one post.

Hey are those three spoke wheels, RPM Talonz? If so, don't those come chromed? Did you dechrome and dye? If so, what method did you use? Sorry for so many questions, those blue three spokes would look wicked on my NR, so maybe I'll give it a try.

You have a nice NR! How much did you spend one it?
05-07-2002, 09:16 PM
nice what did you use to color the wheels with??
05-08-2002, 12:10 AM
Very perceptive! Yes they are indeed RPM Talonz.
I did de-chrome them, but not very easily....I boiled em first to get the mounted tires off em, and some of the chroming came off in that process. Then I tried Oven Cleaner. Then I used some Steel wool. Then I used some sand paper. Then I used a standard screw driver to se some parts. Getting around the talonz was a major pain, and I would never go through all the trouble I did again.
But, ya know what I realized when I dyed em?
I probably didn't have to go through all that in the first place.
Take a look at them in the pic again closely.
I only de-chromed the face, not the inside barrel of the rim.
Yet this part of the rim took the color as well....and ya know what? It kinda came out a metalic blue that looked really cool, so I might try new rims next time.
Thanks. And I got the RD stuff from RD's site obviously.
The bearings came from E-bay and the Hi Tec servo, Cevic exhaust coupler, and trx clutch nut and clutch bell all came from my LHS.
The metric hex head screw kit came from:
The page doesn't list a NR kit, but they do have em if you contact them.
That's the MIP Tourin car pipe:
It comes black, but the heat discolors it pretty much immediately.
I didn't measure them, but I think they are the same length...I have the much hated MIP CVD's on and they aren't sitting any further out of the outdrive cups then they were on the stock A-Arms.
As with everyone else's NR ,it's a money pit.
The stuff you saw in the parts picture roughly represented 275 in parts. approx 160 RD and about 115 in other stuff.
I used one package of RIT dye, available at most stores that carry laundry products. I forgot if I bought Denim Blue or Royal Blue.
I let them boil for about 20 minutes in the Dye bath to get that shade and depth of color.
I think I covered everyone.

thansk i wonder if my uk lhs can gt them?
05-08-2002, 07:48 PM
Mmmm I dunno,
But Roy is a very reasonable person, if you ask him I am sure he would work out international shipping of some sort with you.
Send him Private message here at IAMI, or even better send him some e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org
Be sure to check out the website, the parts are currently available in Blue, Red, Silver and Purple.
Hope this helps.
