Why would an electric car need brakes?

To slow it down, naturally...
Unlike a nitro car, an electric doesn't have a disk brake setup (although that would be cool). An electric motor spools up real quick, but it takes a while for it to spin down. So, you add a brake function to the speed control that puts a load (reverse current) on the motor to slow it down.
Smacking into a wall at 30mph to slow down a car sucks...

Darkspicegirl;
to stop the car of course! what do you think brakes are for?
what the brake does is, it puts a reverse polarity to the motor to slow it down or to stop!
