View Full Version : Shocks-Changed to 4 hole dampers
I replaced my 2 hole dampers with the 4 hole that came with the Buggy.Much nicer on bumps.I can see why some of you have bent shock shafts and stripped out the carrier bolts now.Luckily I did neither.

I didn't either. I kindof got the hint when the MB jumped every time that it touched even a little bump. I went right to 50 weight oil and the 4 hole plates and that seemed to take care of it.

What oil is in them factory?I am thinking about using 30Wt.NON-Detergent motor oil in mine.It would probably foam less than the Factory Green stuff.

I use Associated 30wt with the 2 Hole Pistons Made Slighly Wider. I jus tried to work off my RC10gt Settup and it worked well. The 4 holes were actually too loose for me even with trying 30wt then 60wt Shockoil. I wasted alotta Money on Oil, but Associated makes the Best Oil in my opinion and i Finnaly got it right. It really Sticks Now Under Acceleration, but is alittle squirly coming off of it. This is the only problem i havn't overcome trying to get it to stick to a nice hard, wet track. Like i said, it sticks like glue in the corners and Accelerating, but i keep bending axles...5 total now. I'm beginning to think that it's sticking so good that it's putting too much stress on the axles in the Corners. I dont even jump the thing and i still bend em, the last one lasted 30 Minutes in a Hardm Flat, Dry Field:/ You guys have ANY Wobble in any of your axles? I'm still stumped, gonna send em all back to Traxxas on Monday and see what thay say. Wish me luck.-Matt

I think thatit must have been at least 80. with the 2 hole plate.
So I went with the 50 and 4 holes, but it still seems a little soft.I'm not sure what to do, add more spacers or thicker oil

Instead of buying another set of spacers from Traxxas I went to Lowe's and bought some of that thick black water pipe(like for a well).I cut 4 spacers from it 1" long each and put one on each shock.I removed all the factory spacers. This 1" spacer gives me the right "Lift" I needed with a clean look and changing to the 4 hole dampers gives me the "Flex" I need to avoid stressing the parts so much.I also get quick rebound to the shock's fully extended position due to this combination.

Great minds think alike http://www.traxxas.com/ubb/wink.gif Dave. I found some white PVC pipe under my workbench, Cut off 2 pieces at 1 1/4" long, but they were too small so I cut one side length wise like the factory spacers, (took off the factory spacers) and forced them on, then added 2 more of the factory spacers to the front shocks. That way I was also able to keep the smooth travel without stressing the shocks too much.

What did you put on the rear?I was going to use the White also and split it untill I found the Black pipe.I find 1" plus the 4 hole damper plus the origional green oil works well for onroad. It is raised to full ground clearance this way.It squats under acceleration but immediately rebounds.
I got so tired of my T-Maxx rolling in turns(because of high CG) that I removed ALL the spacers which put the control arms level. Now I cannot drive it because even the slightest turn at high speed sends it out of control.Guess I will have to work on that now...
