I wanna race but dont know what is a good spring/oil combo

Front:
Stock springs
60wt oil
2-hole pistons

Rear:
Stock springs
60wt oil
3-hole pistons

If you are running on a prepared high traction track use 80wt oil instead.

I've had very good results with this combination.

does anyone know what's the stock oil weight that comes with the n4tec?

Nitro Boost,

Do you also use the "clips" that came with the 4Tec to stiffen the springs, or is the oil and and piston setups enough? I noticed on mine that after I remove the clips, the height of the car became lower. Seems like the shocks were not holding the car to the optimum height without the clips.

Those clips aren't used to stiffen the shocks, those are the ride height clips. If you can tell us the type of surface your running on, we can set you up great! The best tires are essential for good handling. I suggest foams for asphault. And all of the above setups are great.

BTW, has anybody installed the gold shock shafts?? Are those just for durability?

RC Rick,

Thanks for enlightening me on the clips. I did notice that if I remove the clips, the height of the car drops - almost touching the ground. Would you suggest re-building the shocks with the suggestions from this topic, i.e. oil, springs, etc.?

I run the car on a track that is part of a huge parking lot. It's is asphalt.

I gotta tell you guys though. Using the stock spring and shock setups (with the clips) the first time I ran my car on the track was kind of embarassing. My car was rolling on each turn and also spinning out, cars were passing me left and right and sometimes running me over - the 6 scales were running me over. On straight-away my car would not want to go straight, kept pulling right. I tried the trim but it still pulls.

I really couldn't floor the traxxas to really see the power it has. I really have to get the suspension set right before I head back to the track.

I would definatley get the rebuild done! Get sway bars, and a new shock set up. Also, what are you doing in the 1/6 scale class?!? Get new tires also.

Keep practicing a lot, and you will surprise some people when you race next!

Good luck man!

RC Rick,

It was an open track for practice, so all classes were on the track at the same time. Those 6 scales are monsters compared to my 10 scale.

I will definately re-build the shocks.

rc rick i haven't used the gold shock shafts, but gold is a soft metal. so i would think they wouldn't last long, teflon coated slid smoother. but steel or if you can find them titanium would last longer.

I just rebuilt the stock shocks. I still have to use the clips though, otherwise, the car will be too low. Souldn't the shocks hold the weight of the car, without adding the clips? Should I just get a different set of springs?

you want the shocks to settle slightly down, that way when you turn the shocks can extend and keep the wheels on the ground, thats what you use a droop gage for.

Also experiment with the mounting hole on the shock tower, and the suspension arms. If you have to use A LOT of clips, then move the mounting screw for the top of the shock, to the lower hole on the shock tower. If this is the front shocks your talking about, then move the bottom of the shocks to the inward hole on the suspension arms. I found that I think RPM makes shock stops that you put on your shocks to keep it from going down too far. These are good, because you can sit your car even lower, without worrying about the chassis dragging on the ground in the turns!

Good luck to ya bro!

4tecRookie, the purpose of the clips is to adjust the ride height. That's why the car came with clips of diffrent sizes. The lower end of the car will tend to have more traction, so by using diffrent clips you can adjust the ride height to help fine the suspension. Use the stock clips, and you should be fine.
