View Full Version : AM RX antenna shortened in crash

I landed rubber-side up on a sidewalk off of a jump and my antenna wire got damaged. Its about 4" shorter now. If I solder it back on, will it be good as new or will my range be reduced? Right now my range is about 40' before the signal gets laggy and glitchy.

Do you feel that the range is shorter now than before you placed the car the wrong way?
The length of the antenna has much to say with the radiowave and the tuning between the RX and the TX, i can not explain it good enough here but anyway, it is important that it has its full length to get the right signals from the TX. Same with FM-antennas, i think they are 50 cm.
I know the length is key to proper function and the range is definitely shorter now. One of my friends said I need to go get a new piece of wire that is the same length and gauge as the antenna should be and replace the broken wire. Is this how I need to fix it or can I solder the old piece back on?

Ok, I soldered back on and charging the pack now lol I figure this should be better than it being too short. We shall see!

Ok, well I just drove it and it seems to have decent range, not as good as before but close. Way better than it was lol I'm gonna buy a 2.4ghz Link system soon

My Rustler VXL came with the 2.4 ghz system, the antenna is in the body, and the transmitter has a little fold up antenna. I think it's awesome, safe all 'round. No poking peoples eyes (I never actually did that, but its possible) and no breaking wires...

the wire can be soldered but if you use the old piece it will be shorter as you will need to twist it to the old part tosolder it possibly an inch shorter thus raising the antenna's frequence altho it will be closer to stock then not putting it back on it will still not be perfict you can order a new wire antenna for your rx from traxxas and solder it in the rx.
I kept my antenna under my body by going between the front and rear body mounts the other way is a piece of spare body plastic and wrap the antenna wire arround it thy to keep it away from any other electronics and the engine

Best thing to do is to take apart the receiver and solder a new wire to the circuit board the same length as the old one.
