I have order my stampede 4x4 but if i want running with 3s all the winter the best first mod i think it the King Headz motor mount with bigger bearing and aluminium slipper bearing adaptor.

I bought one, got the e-mail that it shipped out today. I got a spare bearing also and I bought the traxxas slipper bearing adapter as well, it was cheaper than the king heads adapter and came with the bearing whereas the king heads part doesnt. Same part IMO... but after what ive been reading, anything I can do to help with the slipper and bearing in that area is worth the money. The king headz mount cost almost $45 once it was shipped to me in canada... hopefully its all its cracked up to be.

I can't IMAGINE how I've had such good experience with my slipper bearing. I replaced the original because it had seixed, then replaced that one within a week just because my Boca order came in. The Boca bearing is still spinning great. Of course, I do baby my 4s4, as evident from the pics below:

Any trouble ever with bearings using just a Nimh 7 cell?
Is it just a lithium problem?

I can tell you it's all it's cracked up to be and you should get it fast as I've been running 2 in my 4x4 PE's while racing in the GLORCS for most of the summer. You'll get your order quick hopefully, I ordered 5 of them on the 21st and they showed up yesterday(28th).

It is a common problem period. Some seem to go fast, some are still going. Just depends on where you run and what you run in and how much run in and if you're lucky enough to get a good bearing or no.

Really, how is that fixing it... maintainance is without saying but I've had a brand new one sieze on me during it's first 5 minute qualifier. Replaced it and the last one was still good until I switched to the Kingheadz mounts. So in the end depends on if you get a good bearing or not.
at the beginning of the race season, my stock bearing seized and melted the mount. I replaced with a stock mount, and an hpi wheel bearing from my e-sav pile and it was good for the rest of the races. Let it be known that my center bearing and diff area were brushed clean every race day.

How do you maintain it? Brushing it off is not maintenance, the dirt on the outside isn't what seizes up a bearing. It's the dirt on the inside. I pull the shields off of my bearing, (yes, they do come off) and spray it out with motor cleaner. Then I re lube them with 3-n-1 oil. This happens every 2 weeks, and I have the same center bearing I've been running since January of this year when I got my Platinum.

I'm running 2s lipo and have done nothing and its still working grate!
The stock bearing failed on the 3rd pack. I did not have to remove the seals (I know they com off...) on the used bearing I replaced it with. It is still smooth, After an entire race season. People told me the mount was a bad design, but I dont think so. I have had no troubles since the other bearing was installed. The only time in my life that I had to maintain bearings the way you suggest, was If I was running in water.

Come on guys, some things fail... Nothing is perfect and nothing last forever... And, the good thing of this is that you can have fun fixing it and continue having fun... It's part of the hobby and life...
:)
And you wonder why they fail. . .
I really dont understand what your trying to say?
My new bearing, in my new platinum failed the first day on shakedown runs in a parking lot. How much dirt do you think I accumulated in there? I guess I should have broke down the rear end after the second pack. Yea, that would have prevented it. Maybe it should have said on the box : "Please disassemble the truck, and pull seals off of all bearings after every 5000 mah you run through..."
The Traxxas bearing was defective. It was not my fault, so stop inferring that it was.
I know you work for Traxxas, and want to back up the products you sell, but face the truth.
The HPI bearing has worked fine with "normal" maintenance. The seals keep the dirt out (and lube in) as they were designed.
That was only the second bearing in my time in the hobby that has failed. Last one was on my 6 gear trans rc10 in the 80's.
... and I have the same center bearing I've been running since January of this year when I got my Platinum.
I guess you got lucky.

Pav, do your self a favor and buy a piece of 1/2" od tubing (about $4) and the problem goes away. In 9 months after putting the tubing in my Slash 4x4 I have not had any problems with the stock bearing! Another way is fill the hole the drive shaft goes through in the front with silicone. Just put a small amount of grease on the driveline so the silicone doesn't stick, fill the hole and let it dry. Nothing can get in, not rocks, dirt, sand, nothing gets in. Then just put some foam in the slipper adjustment hole.
Traxxas had the alum mount option at the 4x4's release. Maybe they knew it was a weak point? I wish it would have came with the platinum. In hindsight, I would have taken it over the alum sus parts...

The mounts not weak, it's the bearing. The King Headz and the FLM mounts are machined for a bigger stronger bearing. The biggest problem is trying to keep them clean. And that can be tough depending on what kind of terrain you're running on. It wouldn't be that hard to put the bigger bearing in the stock plastic mount. There's a guy on Ebay that's sell's the stock mount with a bigger bearing, but it's priced to high.

Yeah, and I had to work on my Igloo that day anyway so I probably couldent have come.... hehe.
Know what americans do that we canadians always find funny.... when you say thank you to a waiter or waitress in a restaurant they dont say "your welcome"... they say "uh huh". Its funny because its so common. Say thank you to a canadian server and they'll say your welcome... say it to an american serve and you get "uh huh" every time. Makes me laugh EH!
I am a cab driver in Pittsburgh PA. I generally find people from outside the country are not as polite as the people who live here (every Canadian I have met were pretty nice though), and a majority are just downright rude. I get the same thing as you pave. Maybe its just exposure to cold winters, and good hockey that helps us be more polite lol.

That was Sunday, the 10th.
FWIW, I just replaced the slipper bearing last night. I figured that since it's such a bad design and I haven't exactly been running on-road, the bearing must be shot by now.
So I tore the rear module off, slipped the slipper assembly out, and popped off the dusty brown bearing. I couldn't find anything wrong with it. But since I had swallowed the notion early on that this was a problem area, I had purchased 22 replacement bearings, and since it was apart anyway I threw a new one in there.
This is NOT to say that the Kingheadz part is useless, but for me it likely would not have helped at all.

Yeah, but you drive like a gir.... Uh, better not go there for several reasons, one of which you saw a good "girl" driver at the oval track on the 10th. :)
Was the bearing that you took out bad?
