i was wondering if the optional vxl esc fan would work on this truck, it might be something to consider

Absolutely. Its a stock VXL ESC... no different from any other VXL ESC. It has the ACC plug on the side to run a fan, and I would think in this application, a fan is probably a good idea.... as is some sort of beefy heatsink/fan combo for the motor.
