While at the China-mart I picked up some Energizer 2000mah Nimh AAs for my controller. The cost was around $13 for a timed 8hr charger and 4 X AAs. I used the timed charger once and the AAs got hot so I decided to make a way to peak charge them using my Hyperion 1210i. So I made a these...

Charge leads made out of Deans wire, 4mm banana plugs and battery bars.

Setting the Hyperion to the correct settings I was able to charge them at 1C or 2A.

The back sides of wedges are shrink-wrapped to break the circuit from the controller.

Fresh peaked 2.4ghz batteries!

If I could do it again, I would just buy the higher mah batteries without the charger though the 2000mah seem to last forever.

This is AWSOME. Glad your putting those connectors to good use.

So you are using a $50 AA holder instead of a $2 AA holder. Hmmm - ever hear of "Murphy's Law"?

 Too true! For the same reasons that you should never charge your truck battery in the truck, you should not re-charge your AA batteries in the transmitter.

Yep, hapopened to me with an old TQ. Luckily I was only using it as a charger and the radio was out of commission, but even at a low amp rate the little spring clips got so hot they melted into the case and then the holder was garbage. I made a beefed up on from a block of wood and heavier bars and it works great, plus since it's only 4 cells it doesn't take long. Whatever you do charge them SUPER slow, no more than .5 amps, if you choose to continue charging in there.

Well, if I can make these I can make something else. For those who don't know what ksb51rl is talking about...

Maybe you should use something like that (http://cgi.ebay.ca/4-cell-AA-Plastic-Battery-Holder-/220645758964?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2&hash=item335f8317f4)

Any built in charging system on any RC I've seen does not use peak chargers. any xmitter and receiver onboard charging I've ever seen used was with the smaller trickle chargers.....

I wouldn't want to push that kind of current while it was hooked up to my expensive electronics. But that's just my 0.02

My DX3.0 uses this:
8-cell AA holder. (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062251&CAWELAID=107592750#) I bought an extra one and happen to have enough AA batteries to keep both sets of 8 handy.

(Okay - truth be told I bought TWO extras because I threw my one and only holder full of freshly-charged NiMH batteries into my briefcase where it contacted something rather conductive and melted the spring contacts flat and into the plastic of the holder while someone wandering around asking "Do you smell that?! Something is burning. It smells like melted plastic!" The only thing that kept this unfortunate event from becoming more distressing and destructive was that one of the spring connectors melted too far into the plastic to remain in contact with one of the terminals. As I posted before: Murphy's Law.)

Is this better... lol I had to drive 45 miles and pay 100% mark-up but BAM 4cell holder.
