Hi All,
In the quest to stop dirt from my off road track wreaking havoc with bearings I have just fitted the JConcepts overtray with the proline undertray I had already tried.

Will report tomorrow on how it behaves, Let me know your thoughts...
Cheers,
Paul.

It looks like you may have some heat issues, let us know how it goes.

Let us know how it runs. I know Oggie here at the forums ran both at one point. Not sure he still does.

I am adding a set of these to my new bodies. You may want to do the same as you will get much more air flow and could direct it to wherever you want just by placing in a certain spot.

I had the same outfit. It overheated. Now I just use the upper tray and the truck still stays pretty clean with no overheating. I did cut off about 1/4" of the front valance for more airflow. Now I can run my 9000 3S battery with no problems except trying not to wheelie 100% of the time.

The overtray is certainly very useful with any 4x4 as the front wheels sure do throw a lot of dirt onto the inside of the body which then falls onto the tray.
I presume your fan is blowing air onto the heatsink, which is by far the most efficient (see http://www.halfgaar.net/fan-cooling-intake-or-exhaust). This however will be a problem as a lot of dirt/dust lands on the over about there (channeled from front mudguards) and the fan will likely suck it onto the motor and right into the area you most want to keep it out (but try it and see anyway).
Theoretically You give up about 30-40% of fan effectiveness by having it suck air over the heatsink instead of blow it. In this case through you have air channeled over the top of the overtray likely going faster than air over the bottom of the overtray/chassis which will likely cause a relative vacuum on the top (Bernoullie's principle as used in aircraft wings), and so the fan blowing may be helped by this and aid cooling, compared to the fan sucking against this vacuum, and the difference may be less than you think.
Almost none of the dirt comes in the front of the chassis and so Mad's idea of cutting off a bit from the front sound good and would allow air to be forced in at speed and exit via the fan hole - passing over the ESC, motor and heatsink in the process, and further assisting a fan set up to suck air over the heatsink.

take a piece of air filter or something to keep the dust of the hole, i used a piece of a old motor saver outer filter for mine and glied it down. wou wouldnt believe how dirty it got

I like yours. You might think a bout a scoop on the front of that overtray to draw air through more efficiently.
Let us know if you have any overheating issues.
Here's mine:

It has NO overheating issues on a 2s. Have not tried on a 3s as yet. As soon as I get bored with what I have, I might.
:)
I cut the slots out of the two largest louvers. Then I just switched the wiring on the fan motor causing it to blow upward instead of downward.
I usually take two trucks per outing. The other truck is a Revo with a Picco ....28 big block. It does all kinds of tricks and is fast as ****. When I feel the Slash is gettting hot I just put it on the battery charger and run a couple of tanks through the Revo.
The Slash seems to be a better handler on the track and the Revo seems to be an all out basher.
Oh, I run paddle tires all the way around on the Slash Ultimate. FWIW...............

I am just about to paint the Pro-Line undertray and was worrying about the heat issue too...
Let us know how you go...
The undertray doesn't do much except make it run hot. Plus, I like to leave the upper tray clear so I can see what's going on in there without haveing to remove the tray.

So the Under Tray that goes under the truck and leaves the motor and ESC exposed over heats the truck
While
The Over Tray Keeps the motor cool while it traps all the heat in?

Right, just been for an evening bash.
Great news, no overheating problems whatsoever! :)
I had the temp gun out but no point really as it only got 27c (81f)
Now i do have a setup that is not as fast as most.
- 2S Lipo
- Stock Velinion
- 12/54 gearing i.e. stock spur, pinion 1 tooth smaller than stock, making it slower
- Kingheadz ally motor mount with oversize bearing
This setup is great for my offroad 'track' as its short and dusty with plenty of jumps.
I know this setup wont be for everyone but it works perfectly for me and i am no longer worried about killing the motor mount bearings.

Sorry about this, its a NAS on my home broadband, was it quick for anyone?

Yep
(see http://www.halfgaar.net/fan-cooling-intake-or-exhaust)
I like the idea of pointing one of these towards the back of the slash, minimising dust ingress, would this be a bad idea for any reason?
Thanks for the advice.

just painted my under tray p-ainted and fitted...
everything looks good except if you also have RPM front skid & bumper, there is a very small fit problem...I mean the skid sort of bowing a little because of the thickness of polycarbonate...otherwise all good and there is still a small gap at the top for airflow so should be fine...

Yes ! I have been running both all summer long no problems ! I have got a few rocks in the drive shaft, only because track has been very dry and dusty.
Just switched to mmp with stock motor still no problems. I wanted more adjustments on esc , comes to life with the mmp in it !
I installed a scoop on front shock tower to pull air in
