Which car gives more bang for the buck? My local hobbyshop sells both and advises me to get the IMPULSE. What advice can you give?

well it depends wost lhs sell what ever they can get the most prorfit off of. but for racing a 4-tec can more dialed in the a impulse. personally it comes down to what you like i say go for the tec it's ez-er to fix and tinker with, and just as bit (with all of the pro kit hop-up's) as a impulse

Get the Tec Pro, its more durable, and everything you guys mentioned before.

I like the 4-tec for bashing but the Impulse is far superior for racing. And the info you got earlier about being able to dial the 4-tec in better is just plain wrong, the impulse is FAR more adjustable.
Hope this helps,

i dont have an impulse but i do have a 4 tec.
does the impulse come with a novarossi in it?
good engines but their always changing the designs of them so parts for an older novarossi are hard to come by.its not just the car your buying its the parts support also, and i do know that traxxas hasparts on hand when they break, plus the engine trade in policy.

I say go with the 4tec because of parts availibility. Racing is 50/50. A properly tuned car in the hand of someone that doesn't know how to drive it will loose every time compared to a improperly tuned car in the hands of someone that is an experienced driver will win or place in a good finishing position. That is just something to consider.

i checked out the serpent in a comparison they did in rc car action magazine against the mugen, the things i didnt like about it were its only a 1 speed, and the motor IS a novarossi,i would recommend the serpent for someone who wants to use it strictly for prepared racing tracks, so over all i think the 4 tec is a better car, nothing like having that second gear,oh yah the mugen won

need4speed - Just so you know the Impulse now comes with a two speed.
