I have been seeing that people have shimmed their diff's. What does this do to the handling of the Mini e-revo? OR Does it even do anything?

It gives the ring and pinion gear a better mesh(how tight they fit together). The mesh is a bit loose with the plastic bulkheads and many people start hearing a clicking sound they drive hard. Usually from the rear of the truck. Driving like this will end up stripping your ring and pinion.
The shims are AE part# 21141, diff shims for the rc18. They go inbetween the bearing in the bulkhead and the diff, not the small pinion and smaller bearings. On the side of the diff that has the ring gear.
I use trial and error to find out how many i need. I add one shim and rereassemble then check for binding in the drivetrain. I add untill I DO feel a slight bind then I remove one shim. It takes a bit of time but I believe it's the best way.

Basically this is done to prevent damage correct

I too bought these shims becuase of the bulkhead being too loose and like guy said up there it puts a tighter mesh on the diffs so you dont end up ruining your differential.
