Frequency change?

My son has a T- Maxx and won't let daddy drive. Dads' solution, go buy his own! Problem is they are on the same frequency and dad wants to whoop up on his boy for not letting him drive. Can you change the crystals? I know in my planes you can't change the transmitter frequency, or your not supposed to. I was just wondering if ground and air had the same regs. If I can't, about how much is another radio?

FWIW, there are less brown & orange crystals out there (on TRX vehicles) because they do not come standard in the RTR models.

Also, they are very easy to switch. Just pull out and plug in.
