View Full Version : E-Maxx torque/takeoff problem

I was doing some take off runs today with my maxx and sorta drag racing myself to see how much torque she really has.  Anyways, I did about 10-15 takeoffs and the E-Maxx was running great. It was on time and had plenty of torque. After the runs, I began to hear a weird noise upon takeoff. It sounds almost like the motor is spinning and it doesn't hook up with the tranny gears right away. I can hear the motor spinning fine, it's just the takeoff is slow. I checked the motor temp, I didn't have my temp sensor with me but the motor was hot to touch. I am running a 6s, all stock setup. I took a video with my phone so it's not the best of quality, but turn your speakers up so you can hear the noise as well. Here is the video:

Sounds like either A: your slipper clutch is loose, B: spur gear is stripped, or C: the motor is loose on the mount and the pinion/spur are not meshed properly.
It's most likely A.

if you've tightened your slipper and it's still sounding like it's loose, you may need a new slipper clutch. i've broken the pads, the plate, and bent the rings before. that's what it looks like to me.

Thanks guys, a duh moment for me.
I will check on that tomorrow, sounds like it's the issue. But dealing with these expensive trucks, I didn't want to hack away at it.
Thanks again.

If u can, let us know what u come up with. If the slipper was loose, wouldn't the sound be more of a higher pitching sound? I heard more of a grinding sound-

sounded almost like it was bad gear mesh along with a loose slipper... let me know if you figure it out.

I had the same problem yesterday as the car suddenly stopped its wheelies. A noise (seemed like spinning) was also heard at take off.
Grand National, it will be great help if you tell us what the problem was.

Just a loose slipper. The gears aren't meshed right, I need to align them.
