blew the inner pinion bearing bashing around today, which in turn chewed up my ring/pinion. had an extra set so i dissasembled and swapped, got almost a full run in and the rear diff is clicking again. im running brushless, and drive hard, but ive got my slipper a bit looser than i used to, and between runs i detuned the ESC a lil. i was on dirt, no pavement... and i've broken axles before diff's in the past.

is there a good DIY on rebuilding these things? did i miss something? i lubed with lucas 5th wheel grease, and filled the diff case with it... it's a heavy tacky oil but a grease... could that cause another problem?

does anyone make bearing kit's just for the diff? or do i need to put one together myself?

has anyone tried a spooled revo diff in the rear, and leaving it permenantly locked? or a revo diff with very heavy oil? they seem to be cheaper to buy spares of...

did you shim it to take out any slop between the ring and pinion? My summit has been good, but I had a savage that blew diffs weekly until I learned to shim it. After that, it never gave me any problems.
I'd also make sure your diff housing doesn't have any cracks or stripped holes that would allow it to deform under power.

yea... the shimming i suspected but didn't know, there was slop between the ring/pinion. i didn't remember pulling any shims out of the ones i've rebuilt. happen to know the part # im looking for that'll fit these things? i assume im shimming the pinion inside the case to keep it against the ring? it seemed that once the driveshaft was installed outside the case it kept it where it aught be... but i guess that's not quite right.

I had the rear diff spiders blow out on mine within a month. Since shimming them closer together during the rebuild, it's been great for close to 6 months now.

Similarly I had the ring & pinion strip out in my E-Maxx years ago, but after shimming the gears tighter, problem solved.

Here's a post explaining how to shim the R&P gears:

Unfortunately I don't think shimming will help with exploding bearings though. For that you'll probably want to replace them with ceramic bearings, making sure they are lubed real well too (lack of lube I think is also contributing to the stock bearings failing so soon too).
