Im looking into getting a new servo sometime in the near future and I want something thats alot better quality than the stock servo. Will this (http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXH291&P=ML) be a good upgrade for the MERV? Also, what is the torque of the stock servo?

i got the hitec hs-85mg its an awesome servo but you have to get du-bro servo horn. the stock servo has 41oz of torque the hs-85mg has 85 oz of torque and is a metal gear servo, im very happy with the hitec servo.

The hs82 works flawlessly for this little car. I use a TL alloy servo horn for hitecs.:D

Hi tec servo's are garbage. Futaba, Ko Propo, and JR are a few quality servos I'd consider if upgrading. Just one man's opinion.

Hi-Tec HS-85MG with aluminum horn seems to be the standard choice on here and other forums.

Not enough torque for me to upgrade. If I upgrade which I plan on doing. 75 oz of torque would be the least I would consider.

Didn't know I had too.
You are welcome.
I thought when you upgraded a servo , you might want to up the torque (more than 7 ounces that the HG-85mg offers), not just to metal gears.

Lol seriously. I swore by HiTec for awhile too. I have the KO PDS3101 in mine right now. Not the 75oz you're looking for but it feels twice as strong than the 85MG I had before it.

This right here, is what I call an upgrade. And this will be my final upgrade to my revo. With a little modification, I'm hoping it will fit.

Bonesaw, you pick nice servos.
The specs on that KO servo look good but I cant get over the lack of bearings and the price with no bearings.

These trucks dont need a ton of torque/speed in the steering servo. The stock servo I find to be too fast and it makes the truck twitchy. Once I upgrade radio in this truck Im going to mess with EPA and tone down the steering

I went dual stocks and love it. No more twitching and it respones the way I want it to. I don't know the cost of the other servos guys have listed but the traxxas one is $20 some and the linkage is another $12. Just another option for you.

i got my ko propo the other day. drove it today. and it was awesome. its realllly fast. stock horn fits too. just have to cut out the small bit between the mounting hole and the screw hole to get the wires through, really easy though and you dont see it when your done. plus its narrow and it doesnt hit my sway bar. +1 on the ko propo lol

Hey I tried that too. But my lack of knowledge on the install burnt up one of the servo's. It seemed like they weren't fighting each other for center. I later found out that you need adjustable links to the servo arms to make it work. How did you set it up? Mine only lasted about an hour before one died. I still have another stock servo sitting here with the hardware to hook it up. I just don't know exactly how to set up the steering servo's without one of them dieing. It would be really cool if someone posted a how to up here. Or something! 82 oz of torque was sick...while it lasted. Help us! :) Thanks.

Mine were fighting too when I first hooked it up. So I kept taking the horns off and resetting them until I heard nothing but smooth movement. Took about 20 min but I just used stock parts and I've been running it for two weeks or so without any problems. Don't know if that helps or not.

Lol, seriously.
I have had numerous Hitec servos, as well as having friends with them, not one of them had a problem, including me. Just one mans (and his friends) opinion

Ive also never had any problems with hitec servos other than they are overpriced. I buy all my servos from hong kong now

It kinda helps. But I spoke with traxxas a few weeks ago whenever it died, and they told me I would need a adjustable linkage on them to make it work. I know what parts to use...just don't know how to set it up, wondering if I need to adjust anything on my transmitter (sub trim?). On a side note, my stockies didn't fight each other at all when I installed them.

Two other things to think about here...
1) Waterproof! I use my truck in all conditions and I plan to run it in the heart of Canadian winter.... There is several "how to waterproof a servo" out there on the web. I am planning to try this on the KO PDS3101... Any extra advise?
2) Servo saver. Keep it clean!!! This is essential, no matter what servo is being used. If the spring cannot compress properly (i.e. full of dirt, small rocks jammed...), the full force of the hit is transmitted directly to the servo gears. I suspect that a lot of dead stock servo complains are a direct result of this... By the way, do you know of any mod / hopup that would improve (maybe seal) the stock plastic servo saver?
