what do i need to run lipo on my slash

A lipo charger and a battery. Depending on your driving a 3s or 2s. I run a 2s for all around grass, pavement driving. But the first question for you is the budget how much you looking to spend on the charger and battery?

im still on xl-5. dont i need low voltage detecting.

Well yeah you would need to install a lvc or low volt alarm. Many people say that the brushed motor don't hold up well to lipos. So in the near future you may want to up grade to the vxl brushless system. but we can recommend top of the line stuff or what have ya but it really depends on how you plan on driving and the budget

On 2s lipo your xl-5 and titan will last just fine, clean your titan often and oil the bushings often and it will be fine, just don't use 3s on stock motor esc.
