my 2 year old novak esc is fried so its time for a new one. what is the best system of these three: novak hv maxx 6.5, mmm 2200 kv, or the Tekin 1/8 RX8? i am running 12 cells.

If you don't have LiPos, you should stick with the Novak stuff. But, if you want the best, get some good LiPos and then run the MMM or Tekin system.

would it be bad to run non lipo batteries with the mmm or tekin?

Although they say the MMM can be run on NiMh... its not a good idea to do so cus the brushless system requires way more power then the nimh packs can deliver and could possibly ruin both the batteries and esc from being tasked too hard.
Lipo technology works so good cus it can supply the esc and motor with all the juice it wants and does it without resistance or leaving the esc short on its demands for power.
So it comes down to whats your budget?
Stay with Novak and you just need to replace the system.
Go with the MMM or tekin and prepare to buy lipos, lipo charger if needed, and a lipo balancer if needed.
If you can swing it for the MMM way... you will not be sorry. Its a wild beast in the E-Revo. And the car sure can handle it and thensome. Its Very Impressive!

Get the GT A-6-10 200W Balance charger & discharger $77 at ********* a few 2s or 3s ***** $20-30 also a power supply I use the 25amp one from radioshack $55. And you will be good to go.

Same place, the accucell-6 is pretty good. you will need a power supply to go with it. Its the same thing as the Venom pro charger... but a fraction of the cost.

Sounds to me like you got some GOOD USE out of the Novak, If I was you I would just go buy another one. If you step up to a MMM or a Tekin RX8, then dig deep for those Lipo's because those are some hungry ESC's and Motor's.
