6 cell or 7 cell for racing?

Is a 7 cell nimh battery gonna give me any extra power that could help in a race? I cant afford to go out and get a lipo setup but i am looking for some more power that can help me clear jumps. Is the 7 cell gonna be too heavy for racing? And do they make an 8 cell?

You won't notice a huge difference in top end between 6/7 cell but the 7 cell will give you a decent amount more of acceleration to clear jumps.

I would stick with the 7cell. If your running the titan 12t it will not last long on 8cells.

Just a heads up here don't buy used batteries, you don't know what they have been subjected too. 7 cells will have slightly less runtime because of the weight of the extra cell.

In my opinion you have that backward. A 7 cell will give more top end because the voltage is higher. Punch to me is = to acceleration and the 7 cell will hurt you there because of the added weight.

The best solution to the issue is really to go lipo but if that is off the table I would suggest playing with gearing to give you more acceleration to clear the jumps.

I agree on not buying used batteries, unless they come with a used vehicle you're buying.

Not so sure about this, the stated issue is trying to clear a jump. I cant think of any place the weight of a battery would hurt you more than there. How far the truck will "fly" really depends on how heavy it is.

I have two 7 cells from these guys. cheapbatterypacks.com and love them! I have one made with the Elite 5000 mah cells and one made with 3300 mah cells. Huge difference over 6 cells in the speed department. Good build quality and way cheaper than buying a name brand Nimh. Got the 5000 7 cell for $50 with shipping.

I run on a dirt track with one runway and quite a few turns. At my first races this year I was the only one running a 7 cell and all the others were running 6. I had 'em all on the straight but they were flying by me in the rest of the track. They had less power so they weren't spinning the tires so much on the turns and got a lot more traction than I did. It took a lot of throttle control on my part but after I got used to the dirt track and the 7 cell I was the only one able to make the double and was flying by them on the straight. Doesn't mean I won because I ended up flipping and had to wait on corner marshalls because they dont want ran over lol. And in my opinion with a 7 cell you gain "punch"acceleration and top speed. Acceleration because you have more power and weight to the rear tires to plant and drive them and more top end because of more voltage. I think I am right. And try not to get a humped pack so your cog stays as low as possible.

I disagree with the first paragraph. I noticed an improvement in both top speed and acceleration with 7 over 6 and 8 over 7. Handling is about the only negatively impacted performance metric when increasing cell count.
