View Full Version : Is a high MAh, NI-MH worth the money?

I was wondering how much longer run times you can get out of a 3000 MAh NI-MH battery for $34 vs. 3 more 1500MAh Ni-CD's for $10 each. Is it really worth that much more?

You can get a 3000 for $34?? I paid 45 for a 2400!! My 2400 gives me at least 3 more minutes run time in tough contitions. I fyou can get a 3000 for $34, I thin kit would be worth it.

Don't forget, the NiMH requires a different charger. If you currently don't have a charger specific to NiMH batteries, you'll need more money.
Personally, I'm not very familiar with NiMH batteries other than they're suppose to be more environmental friendly and don't retain memory like the NiCad batteries. One thing I've read is that they don't have the *punch* that NiCads have. They'll give you a more run time, but there's a sacrifice.

Dude the only place i ever saw 3000s for 35 buck is radio shack and i got to that i run in my E and i get 17= mins of run time VS 6to 8 with 1500s i love the long run time but the have very low voltage whitch means in my maxx no wheelies on the superbrain the nimh top out at 8.25to 8.50 volts and the 1500s top out around 10.00 so they are nice but alot less power
my next set of batts will be the orion 2400 V-maxx 2 of them for 40 bucks is a good deal and they should have the hingh voltage of the 1500 so u would look in to them

The main thing that I know about punch in nicd batteries is the type specification of SCR - this means the battery dumps at a pretty flat rate and nicd's generally dump power faster than nimh batteries - hence more punch - throughout the run. This seems more suited to high power applications like R/C cars as opposed to R/C planes which don't require as much power and fly for long periods of time. Just another 2 cents. I own both types, I just prefer the nicd's, so I am biased.
