What’s the best way to degrease an engine? Is there a way to soak the engine to make it look like new if that’s even possible? I have my own thought out untested methods but I want to know if theirs any tried and true methods out there? Thanks in advance.

2 parts denatured alcohol, 1 part simple green, and a little WD-40 works wonders for me....

Once the engine is cool, I just use some Gumout carburetor cleaner to "DEGREASE" the engine completely. It iwll be grease free and clean.

I usually spray it with degreaser (I think loctite is one (the brand, not actual loctite) or some other one) and after soaking, scrub it with a tooth brush.

Thanks for all the responses; I have more than a few engines that need to be cleaned. So I will give all of these cleaning methods a try.

Electronic contact cleaner works wonders for me...it removes everything and does not leave a residue...top notch stuff. Engine degreaser tends to leave a residue witch will attract more dirt and grime.

If you are wanting to clean off the baked on nitro and grime an old method is to put it in a crock pot with ethelene glycol type antifreeze and let it cook on low overnight. DO NOT USE THE CROCKPOT FOR FOOD EVER AGAIN! Do not breath the fumes from this, do it outside or in the garage. Best thing to do is pick up a used crockpot from a garage sale or thrift store. The aluminum engine parts should come out looking like new.

brake cleaner and carb cleaner is virtually the same thing. You spray that stuff on, and it will get the engine totally clean without any residue. Why people use WD-40 is beyond me because the engine is greasy again and will attract dirt again like that UNLESS they were saying to use WD-40 for the internals of the engine.

I've been doing this with carb cleaner OR brake parts cleaner for years on end without any problems and it gets the engines very clean.

Good luck fellas.
