After some frustrating phone calls with UPS, my Summit made a surprise arrival last night. :)
I think my first thoughts were "wow, this thing is huge!"
Unfortunately I didn't get time to do anything with it except learn that the battery leads on my NiMHs are way too short to reach the speed control. :( I have LiPos, but it just snowed last night. So now I have to either waterproof my LiPos somehow or figure out what to do with the NiMHs.

It's another Yellow one. When I ordered from Tower I selected the "no preference" option when I thought the only two colors were red or blue. Though I'm quite happy. It will be my Strypermobile (Yellow & Black Attack!).
Ideally, I would have preferred blue, but Yellow probably would have been my second choice. :)

just get some 14 gauge wire and extend one of the battery leads on the esc. that is what i did.

Did you solder new leads on or make an extension cable (with plugs on both ends) or were you able to get the plugs off the original wires?

From what I've read, my 40W soldering iron is way underpowered to properly solder battery terminals.

i cut the wire about halfway down. and then using 2 segments of wire i soldered the wire extensions to both the esc and battery connectors. the black heatshrink is the 2 areas that i soldered together. another suggested mod to do to the truck is this one:
http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w38/pruwolfman/evx2mod001.jpg
all i did is cut part of the battery door off to allow a side by side pack to fit nicely and still have the doors close all the way. both mods wer eones that i had done to my e-revo to allow me to use different battery packs.

That's a great idea! Thanks!
I didn't like the thought of the additional cost and bulkiness of extension cables (with plugs).

Thanks to you I should be bashing in the snow this evening! :D

eg are your packs side by side or stick? if side by side check my other suggested mod.

They're side by side, though I thought they looked like they would fit with the door closed. Hmmm
I'll have to check tonight...

eg by side the batteries are all side by side. here is a stick pack:

and here is a side by side:

NOTE:
both pics are only used for reference in the type of pack.

Yea, I know the difference between side-by-side and stick packs. Mine are side-by-side, like I said. I was just saying I thought that they looked like they would fit in the battery compartments without any modifications.
Though now I'm guessing you cut the hole to have the battery leads come out of the box from the middle of the box instead of the back end of the box. Correct?

thats right.

I think I'm just going to extend the battery leads so they'll be long enough to reach the speed control. Then I can leave the speed control wires alone and use the existing battery box wire openings.

the wires from the esc are very short compaired to my 3905 emaxx wires.glad it wasn't just mine.

Yes, that is too bad Traxxas made the ESC Batt leads so short. Mine just barely reach my battery. I read on one of the threads that someone cut the vents out and ran the batt plug through the vent. That could be an option.

Despite the Strypermoble arriving Thursday, today was first day I got to run it.

I was quite impressed by it! In second gear it was faster than I expected. Though I didn't spend much time in second gear...
I was with some crawling buddies so I spent most of the time crawling. I was even more impressed by its crawling ability. I wasn't expecting it to be able to crawl as well as it did. It went just about everywhere I tried to take it. The only spots I couldn't get through were the steep spots with the Summit's high center of gravity was its downfall (literally).

And then I broke the diff. Since it seemed like everyone else was breaking theirs I tried to be really careful, but I guess not careful enough. :(

Here are some shots:

Hey Egnix was it driver error when the Diff broke? :( What were you doing when it broke?

egnix
02-15-2009, 06:37 PM
I believe it broke while I was crawling over some rocks. Already had the diffs locked and was going slow except for some occasional throttle blips.
I don't think I did anything that wouldn't be considered "normal Summit driving". (No locking diffs while moving, no locked diffs on high traction surfaces, nothing abusive, etc.)

That looks like a BEAUTIFUL place you crawl.
You are a lucky guy!!!!

Sorry to hear about the diff breaking. I was hoping it was a fluke when I broke mine but now it seems to be common place. DANG!!!!

Call Traxxas in the morning and they should have the part to you right away. I called last Monday and I received the part on Wednesday. That seems like good turnaround.

Yeah, I was hoping there a few defective parts, but it sounds like the part just isn't strong enough to begin with.

It's encouraging that I can get a replacement quickly, but I can't go replacing this part every time I want to run it. :(

Just had to share my excitement of finally being able to run a full set of batteries through the Summit!

After waiting over a week for the replacement gear/shaft, it finally arrived yesterday and I got to run it today (technically I got to run it yesterday but learned my backyard to too small for Summit running :o).

My 8000mAh SPC lipos gave me about 50min of mixed 2nd gear bashing and 1st gear crawling. Again I was impressed with its crawling ability. It did better than I expected. This time I got to do some more high speed bashing with it. Again, I'm still quite happy with the speed. Although while sometimes I was surprised at the speed, there were times I was wishing it was a tad bit faster. Though I wondered if I'd just roll in the turns more if it was faster. ;)

Now I just need to wait for a good snow storm. Though with it being 70 today, that could be a while...no wait...this is Colorado...that could be tomorrow. :p

Sigh.
Third run, second broken part.
Broke the lower right rear A-arm this time. Not exactly sure when it happened however I noticed it while flipping it back over after a small roll down a hill.

Though had fun for the ~12 minutes it lasted.
Here are a couple pics, and yes I drove to this spot.

Just curious, could you take a picture of the broken A-arm and post it?
