View Full Version : Ride Height Adjustment nuts not turning?

Is there some special trick to get these nuts to turn? Out of the box I cannot turn them at all, and when I try to force them, all I end up doing is loosening the shock caps. I've tried removing the shocks and holding them in a vise grip but I just can't get enough contact to be able to turn them.

Never had this problem with my E-Revo.

I haven't been able to turn mine by hand, hope to get them turned as I want to stiffen the rear shocks.

I tried warming it up with a heat gun, I tried the vise, I tried everything I can think of...

they have a tool to turn the preload collar! LOL!:D didnt think of that as i dont have one ..could you use couple preload spacers and put em in-between spring and the little ring? or is the shock body to big? if it works theres one way if it dosent move:p

Greetings,

I encountered the same problem but was able to adjust the pre-load spacers by doing the following to each shock:
*Remove shock from vehicle
*Remove spring from shock
*Using two channel locks use one to hold shock body with towel in between for protection and the other to free the collar (it will turn by hand once broken free)
*Replace spring and shock on vehicle

Also, make sure you're turning the correct direction - shock cap pointing up turn the collar to the left.

Good luck!

I had a hard time getting them to move as well. After a 1/2 hour or so bashing (loosen it up?), a pair of pliers worked.

so the provided shock wrench wouldn't loosen it up for you guys? because i have been wanting to make the rear stiffer as well.

If you want to get a stiffer ride, get stiffer springs. Increasing preload will not change the spring rate.

It won't change spring rate but it will change ride height.

it will help in the meantime.

Got to take the shock off. Take off the spring. Get 2 pair of pliers. Place one pair on the shock body. NOT ON THE THREADS!!!!!!
Place second pair of pliers on the collar and turn clockwise. Don't squeeze too tightly. I had to do this with my rear shocks. I had it apart anyway replacing the broken gear. :)

I gave mine 7 turns. We will see what that does tomorrow.

I took them out, removed the springs. The kit comes with a tool. Loosen the cap, place the tool between the cap and preload. Loosen counter clockwise with pliers. Once loose everything can be done by hand.

Id recommend putting some masking tape or something on the threads at the stock adjustment, that way, when you tighten them up... IF you dont like it you can put them back to stock without any problems.

I measure everything with a caliper prior to adjustments.

And to get a the nut loose on my E-Revo.... Blowtorch. (just don't melt it.)

Anyone try the simple classics like WD-40??

Just asking.......

WD40 isn't going to work, it looks like in assembly, they tightened and torqued the collar adjuster down, faulty assembly, I've seen it on some other shocks which had to be replaced because of that.
