Beadlocks serve two purposes.
1. Is to provide strength to the sidewall of the tire when sidehilling (climbing term) or going over uneven train in a lateral fashion.
2. Is to allow you to remove the tire from the rim without having to boil them.
The down side is that they are not good to for high speed, I'd assume 30+. As the tires are not affixed to the rims directly. But for what the Summit is designed to do, when some Summit sized beadlocks do come out, they should be OK.
My big plus for the beadlocks is that you can change tires with out having to change rims, just because I am cheap.

Bead locks clamp on the the bead of the tire. Most RC wheel are glued on. Beadlock allow you to change the tires with out having to replace the wheels. For rock crawlers, it allows you to change and adjust the foams and inner weights without destroying the tire and wheel.

Beadlocks are a must for crawlers. Weights can be changed in the tires as well as foams and the tires themselves depending on the conditions you are crawling. Its just a nice feature to have so tires, foams and weights can be easily changed out.
There are some beadlocks that will hold up under 1/8th monster truck bashing sessions without pulling the bead from the capture point. I've seen quite a few in the 40 series. They are more common on crawlers though for the reasons stated.
