Im pretty new to crawlers but whats the purpose of locking the front diff and having an ''open diff'' in the rear? is it for climbing steep angles so the rear doesnt have to much traction to possibly flip the truck backwards? or would it be best to all be locked for max traction?

With a open diff only one two out of the four tires will spin...the two that will spin the easiest. With just the front locked the truck would technically be 3 wheel drive... Locking both differentials would make the truck a true 4 wheel drive and you can go a lot more places.......... Its alot easier to understand with experience with different diffs even in a real 4 wheel drive

the difference in a lockin dif and limited slip dif it that the limited slip will send the power to the wheels with less traction and a lock up dif will send power to all wheels all the time. which makes it best for crawling and just climin over certain obsticals. experiance with both kinds helps with in understandin them a lil better. ive hade more experience with the limited slip in my real truck. a open dif and a limited slip are very simular thats y i was talkin about the limited instead of the open. im hopin that the remote lockers will work on the maxx trucks.
