Thanks !

Yep the E-Maxx body fits the E-Revo w/o big mods required. It's cool because as I destroy lots of bodies (hard bashing !), I often need to buy new ones, so a stock body already painted & with decals applied is perfect for me :) And I love the E-Maxx bodies, nice design and colors !

What suspension setup are you running? do you have the LT rockers in there or just the P2s in the innermost hole? It looks like you have more ground clearance than mine, but i can't decide if that's due to the tires or not.

I'm currently using HPI flux tires/rims.

Popoxx

Flux wheels are bigger than mine so it's not the reason.
I use P2 rockers but the pushrods are mounted in the inner holes, and I use hard springs (Pink in the front, Purple in the back), so my E-Revo doesn't sag when it's off.

Yeah i was thinking maybe the bigger wheels were just hiding the ground clearance. yours is a cleaner more open look so you could see the GC better.

Thanks! yeah i moved up to harder springs but it still sags so maybe i'll try those.

I did what I wanted to do for a long time : change the way I secure the packs ! (my SMC packs required specific mods to fit the boxes).

Up to now I used nylon tie wraps...

http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x285/Popoxx/P1050253B.jpg

Here is what I did :

And because I'm a hard basher, the retainer clips weren't strong enough to prevent the packs from sliding :

http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x285/Popoxx/P1060093B.jpg
Left : twisted / Right : stock

So I installed hard foams :

Looks good Popoxx, pretty clever way to keep them closed.

I think your foam idea will work. It's similar to what i do, only i'm using the foams that came with my e-maxx trimmed a tad and placed in the same as yours. Seems to work really well.

I have one question. When are you doing a Summit?

Popoxx
11-21-2009, 11:00 AM
The Summit is a really innovative truck but it's just a modified E-Revo so it won't be funny for me to upgrade it. And I'm not a fan of rock-crawling, I prefer a fast basher MT :p

My next RC car will be a 1/5 MT :) But I don't know which one and when...

It begs, nae needs 6s, but I'd be terrified of the 6s electronic brakes. I would make every effort to run mech brakes and/or wait for CC to come out with the HVcarMonster that could more safely handle the 6s electronic brakes.

Motor choice would be awesome by that time as well. Go with a CC 1518-1527 or maybe even a massive CC 1717! 1500-2000KV.

Which truck do you like more your ERBE or your EMAXX?

I prefer my E-Maxx just because you can upgrade it ad infinitum !! :p :p
And that's what I like in this hobby ! I prefer testing upgrades and improving strength & reliability rather than run my MTs  :D And I like the MT look of the E-Maxx. A stock ERBE is too pefect so it's not funny for me, and it's difficult to have a setup different from the other ERBE owners because the upgrade range isn't as important as the E-Maxx one's.
mistercrash wouldn't agree with me given the number of pages of his build thread  But I want to propose plug & play means of improving an E-Maxx / ERBE, so that most of people can do it themselves.

From a driving/strength point of view, my upgraded MTs are equal (but a stock ERBE is really much sturdy than a stock EMBE !), they are both funny/easy to drive. Maybe my ERBE is easier to drive due to its light weight (11.3lb vs 12.7lb).

So if you like upgrading and fixing, and if you like a "standard" MT design, the E-Maxx is perfect for you (but I hope you have enough cash :D <_< ).

any update of putting a E-Maxx Brushless body on your trucks?

I would like to do it but I have too many 3905 bodies in my tool box ! I have to destroy them before buying other bodies, maybe... :p

I hope you're aware that it's more expensive (and longer) to start from scratch to build an ERBE rather than buying it directly and upgrading it step by step ? Except if you find good deals on ebay ! :D Can't wait the build thread I love them

Whoa...I almost missed this part and had to read it again. So it is more expensive to build from scratch and only buying the parts (upgrades) I'd want? I thought it would be cheaper.

HobbyLover
02-12-2010, 01:16 PM
Ya me too thats why I'm doing it, I thought that i could save some cash... Oh well i think that I might go ahead and do a build just for the thrill of it and to say "Ya I Built That" LOL

HobbyLover
02-12-2010, 06:42 PM
How do you figure that it is more expensive? Instead of paying for all of the parts that you don't need (built into the price) and then when you order the upgrades you have a bunch of worthless parts laying around...that you paid for and aren't using... I know exactly what I want and will shop on e-bay for the core parts...

Here are the numbers

If i build one the way i want it:$779-$800 This is with all RPM parts Tekin RX8 2250 combo And Traxxas option parts and a little more...(No Radio or Batts) Most of us have those...

Buy one stock: From RCPlanet $674.95

So I spend another $120 to have a bulletproof truck.... Thats the way I will go...

Now add the option parts to 674.95 and you get a little more than $780 Just my .02

Novarider
02-13-2010, 06:12 AM
You said "how do you figure it's more expensive" then went on to say that it actually DID cost more to build one... What you should have said was building one let's you spend your money where you want to. I understand what you mean it's just funny your post sounds like you don't think it costs more to build one then you say it did cost more.

If your just getting into electric or you don't have a 2.4ghz radio it's deffinatly cheaper to buy one stock. Or buy a roller, 2.4ghz radio and the brushless system you want. That's what I did and doing this WAS cheaper then buying a stock one.

SlashX
02-15-2010, 10:50 AM
It is cheaper to buy the brand new kit, sell off the parts you dont want, then upgrade from there.

Why do you think you see so many people on eBay (and here) parting out their RCs? The sum of the parts is worth more than the whole.

I had the same idea. Thought it might be cheaper to build an emaxx from scratch to save some money. After I found all the parts i needed on eBay and added them all up, it was more than double what a new truck would cost.

It is, however, more fun to build one from scratch. Of course, you could always just completely disassemble your new one once you get it.

But we digress...

Popoxx, thank you for this thread. Your project has inspired me to restore an erevo i bought off here. The information in this thread is most helpful.

It's hard to strip a spur with an E-Maxx ! Despite all the big jumps/crashes I did with my E-Maxx, I think I stripped the spur maybe only twice :)

What's new !

- ******* 5000mAh 2s 20C hardcase lipo packs
- Black died chassis/rockers
- RC Solutions black rollcage
- Home-made rear brace
- FullForce RC carbon pushrods
- HPP motor bracket prototype

I replaced my SMC 6000mAh 2s 28C lipo packs because they lost their power and puffed during charge and discharge. So I decided to test the cheap ******* packs :

I cut and dremel these spots to install my lipo packs :

http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x285/Popoxx/P1060699B.jpg

To protect the wires and to reinforce the chassis/bulk spots I bought a rollcage (4 months to get it due to post office malfunctioning...). Looks really strong and easy to install (don't forget threadlock). I raised a bit the body so that it doesn't rub too much against the rollcage :

They work just fine, you just have to watch your gearing. The motor doesnt require 120a at all times, just under full throttle.

David9301, FUNBOSS : tomorrow I run with pdcsq so I will let you know how good are the lipo packs and rollcage

jackka : a RCM member told me yesterday they don't hold out big jumps... I agree with you they look great and are really light, but maybe they aren't as great... We'll see tomorrow ! Traxxas tubes are excellent, no problem with them.

SlotterHouse

If you look, you'll see mine coming out of the receiver cover. To have the antenna wire go from the receiver, out into the great wide open, and then back up into the antenna holder/tube is a bad design IMO.

And you'll love that roll cage. Eliminates chassis flex extremely well...But I would suggest putting some type of protective materiel around the top part of the roll cage (Top hood area). I'm using Gorilla tape. This will help in preventing the paint from getting worn through by the rollcage when you'r landings are inverted....;)

Slotterhouse- If you check out the RCM thread Popox linked earlier today about this mount there is a guy on there that gives a basic discription of how he used this mount with the Tenko sways. Sorry I'm not more specific I think its on page 2. He had to mod a few small things to get it to work.

Popox- I really like the new look, that roll cage makes it look all kinds of tuff and you did a great job matching up a very nice color skeem. How much weight did your new set up add? I have heard that cage is actually pretty light and you cut weight with the rods as well. I would be really carefull with those 100 amp batts, my 2s 5200 30c *******'s work pretty hard to push my truck geared 18/62... I'm sure if you drive like you said- no WOT and set your timing-0-5, start power- low and brake- 40 you should be ok.

My ERBE is awesome !! With a 4s setup it can endure everything !

I did 2 long bashing sessions with pdcsq today and last week, and the breakages are minor : I bent a rear bumper mount (RPM ones on the way :p ), I broke a shock rod end and I destroyed this :

http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x285/Popoxx/P1070510B.jpg
Rear axle carrier, stud axle and 2 bearings.

One of my new ******* packs has a connection problem (my charger only recognizes one cell), and another one puffed during its 2nd charge...
Cheap but risky, it's the rule with this type of packs.

And the power of these packs isn't enough for my taste, I will buy more powerful 2s packs soon.

pdcsq will post a vid of our feats soon (I hope :D ).

Breakages :

http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x285/Popoxx/P1080016B.jpg
FullForceRC carbon pushrods are junk... I broke two of them today, the carbon holds out but not the alu threaded part. So I keep the Traxxas optional pushrods ! One of my pivot ball pops out the axle carrier, I decided to reinstall the stock ones with alu rings (they weren't released when I had installed the RPM ones). You can notice the RPM bearings suffered a bit ^_^

http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x285/Popoxx/P1080013B.jpg
^^ this was the reason of a clicking sound I had since several sessions. It's the yoke of my front center driveshaft.

The ERBE is really sturdy on concrete, skids suffer but no worries !
My ProTek packs are great, long runtime (30-40 minutes), nice temps, no balancing problem, and they seem reliable, we will see if they are durable :fear:

Cool :)

I like the removeable wires idea : the packs are easy to carry (you can't damage the wires when your packs are battered in your backpack and you can superimpose the packs in a small box for example), and no balancing wires exposed !

But sure, on the long run the built-in female bullet connectors will wear out...

Kinda narrow yep ! (I hit this steel bar several times in fact :D ).

These bearings are RPM bearings, they aren't really sturdy... I use Acer Racing bearings with the RPM axle carriers of my maxx and no problem up to now :)

Something I thought about, which you may also have considered.........

Thoughts?

Hum the grey color of the rollcage braces isn't really odd in fact, above all when the body is installed :D I'm sure Axial have the appropriate posts I need to measure the brace size but because of my job I'm not at home currently. I will let you know Friday before my departure !

This jump was stupid but it was so tantalizing :p

I could't make this type of jumps without the HPP motor bracket (http://www.hpp-germany.com/factory-shop/de/RC-Car-Zubehoer/Tuning/Tuningparts-fuer-TRAXXAS/Motorabstuetzung-fuer-E-REVO-BRUSHLESS-EDITION-?x6133d=a7069342e04627918573abc4027b2a3a), and the last version is now available ! :) I installed it yesterday it's a work of art. This bracket is an original idea of the HPP Germany owner so of course only him sells it ! Sure it's expensive but production costs are high in Europe (he tried Chinese manufacturers but the result wasn't great...). Personally I don't regret the investment !

Lets face it, €40 is well worth it when you consider the amount of time and effort, and down time waiting for and then replacing a motor plate! And you've got the added security when your jumping.

Here is my next upgrade  :

http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x285/Popoxx/Shooting2.jpg

It's the new HPP wheel hub (http://www.hpp-germany.com/factory-shop/en/TRAXXAS/17mm-wheel-hub-with-secure-nut-and-center-nut), soon available. No more slope normally ! I will test it soon :p (I will post pics at least, my revo hates winter...).

I'm not really worried by the slight axial slope (look at my driving style...) but I want the best for my revo :D

mistercrash
01-07-2011, 08:55 AM
It should be very nice, like their rear motor support. The two yellow parts, would that be O rings? Sure looks like it. I am not sure about that being the best idea. I wouldn't say it will get rid of slop but it sure will dampen it so that you can't feel it when trying to wiggle the wheel around, giving the impression that the slop is gone. Hmm... A piece that screws in the hex to get rid of the slop, now where have I seen that idea before. Is HPP going to address the issue of the motor popping out of the rear support? It's not a problem that occurs frequently from what I've read but it did happen.

kirbysdl
01-07-2011, 12:17 PM
I learned in photography that you get a stable setup by touching strong surfaces directly to each other. Cheap tripods have a rubber or cork surface around the screw where you attach the camera. As you get up into the pro support gear, you see custom-fit metal plates that bolt directly to the camera body, which entirely eliminates wobbling even if the mount is stressed or torqued.

From that knowledge, it seems that the custom brass threaded inserts that people have been using here should see stiffer results than the HPP product. However, it's nice to not need a drill press to get everything working. =)

Popoxx
01-07-2011, 02:14 PM
mistercrash : yep you're right about the O-rings, here is the explanation given on the HPP website : "The wheel hub will now be centered on the driveshaft by a special center nut with two NBR-O-rings. The large slop and the wheel hub wobbling is now effectively prevented.
Wheel hub, wheel nut and the center nut are made from high-strength aluminum 7075-T6. This material is mainly used in the modern aircraft construction. The steel pin for fixing the wheel hub onto the driveshaft is made of hardened steel and it is able to resist the power of brushless motors." Sounds promising

What about the "issue of the motor popping out of the rear support" ? What does it mean ? If it's a recurrent problem I can ask HPP owner to analyse that.

kirbysdl : thanks for the lesson, I will tell you if the HPP wheel hub gives great results :p

hey mc and popoxx

the motor popped out of my rear motor mount
i have the one from germany too
but this was cause i was jumping ip about 20 ft high on a very steep jump
this is what caused my ticking noise i think as i recon i very clightly bent the blue motor mount or the centre diff housing
as i drove it for 20 ninutes not knowing motor had popped out which is the worsed part bout motor popping out
unless u remove body and have a look u wont know

i recon they should make the part that wraps round the motor wider so it locks into the last rib on the mmm
but that would involve bit more work so would put price up

someone should make a kit and sell the losi cv kits to convert the ebre
i recon would be under 100 bucks and doing this u get stronger shafts and all the slop is gone
say buy 20 shafts
when i bought the berings i bought pack of 10
and buy 100 drive cups
spend about 1000 bucks and u prob have 20 kits
sell for 70 to 80 bucks and u make a tiny profit

Hi sideshow,

I'm sorry if you had some trouble with on of my products. Please kindly let me explain something. The chassis in only so strong as each component. The E-Revo plastic chassis is the weakest point. The HPP motor bracket V1 prevents stripping spuregears. On huge jumps the plastic chassis flexes so much, in some cases the HPP motor bracket popped out.

Therefor we improved the first version. Even with the new version your are able to popping out the motor. All you need is couple of giant jump and landings on a hard surface.

If you love these kind of huge jumps, spend your money into a reinforced aluminum or carbon chassis. Maybe a model plane is a more suitable hobby for you.

Please kindly send me a copy of your invoice, you will get your money back via PayPal. I'm very interested into satisfied customers.

Thank you very much

i mentioned that they should have made the rear motor mount wider about 6 months ago
but i still think u should mod it even more
i think it should be even wider and have a lip on the edge so the lip locks into the groove on the 2200 motor
but this might make the fabricating process alot more involved so would add alot to the price

Salut popoxx ! Un petit bonjour du Québec !

I'm looking to buy a monster truck and i'm having a hard time to chose between the e-revo and the e-maxx , but I kinda like the e-maxx a llittle bit more with is "truckier" look . I'm familiar with t-maxx truck and know their weak points but for me I will go with the brushed version since we get a good amount of snow here in canada. I tought about buying a e-maxx and maybe later buy a summit what are you thinking about this?

Merci beaucoup!

Yes... I did it :(( I don't like seeing my trucks not used so I sold one to give it a second life !
It's a Traxxas forum member who bought it, I hope he'll post more pics and vids than I did these last years :o

Don't ask me if my E-Maxx is on sale, I could never do that, I keep pampering it !
