hey
im kinda new to the hobby i bought a revo 3.3 like 4 months ago and im in love with it! love the noise love the power love everything...but i also kinda want to get the new brushless revo. 1 cuz its the newest thing out there right now...2 cuz its quiet 3 cuz its a revo! 4 cuz i want to try new things 5 cuz electrics seem to not have as many thing that can go wrong
now i heard that electric rc cars take special batteries and they have to charged a certain way and that is understandable because my parents live off solar power and wind and they have this battery bank they have to equalize every so oftern and what not. but beng a n00b to the electric scene (and kinda the nitro but i have learned A LOT in the last 4 months) how hard would you say it is to maintain an electric. what are some of the stuggles with electric and what are some of the advantages?
thanks

the electrics have virtually no maintenance at all, other than maybe a bad mmm or two. other than that thats all with the power system that can go wrong or cause other things to go wrong. you may break things like drive shafts and turnbuckles but thats it.
now heres where the e shines:
it is faster, cleaner, makes less noise, has more power, can smoke nitro revos at there own game....(all day long.)
with the battery's: modern chargers have made it almost impossible to charge a lipo battery wrong, they are pretty strait forward. the Hyperion's/electriflys are going to be the simplest to use.
on lipo battery manufacturers the most noob friendly company is www.maxamps.com
they will get you rolling! (with a price though)
others are true-rc,spc,*********.

they are most likely refering to lipos batteries..they if not attended to properly will go up in smoke..I just got into lipo as i was afraid of my ignorance and the cost to replace but I ahve a buddy who is walking me through it... off the top my head if you have a car dialed in you will not have any headache with electric..I purchased the e-revo went to a brushless novak set up then had to change my controller because the brushless esc and teh factory controller didnt get along...the advantage is with the right lipos you can have some great fun run times i clocked 45 min with my 8000 mah lipos but in a race you would be looking at half that time...you also dont have to really worry as much about over heating the motor my novak say around 79 where as my buddy with is gas was in triple digits and you know you have to keep an eye on those engine temps..its not hard to maintain but it is more expensive I have spent over $600 on lipos $180 in chargers $270 brushless set up $180 Controller and the cost of the car but the new e-revo as you know comes brushless with argueabley the best brushless system on the market and teh 2.4 ghz controller so all you have to do it get lipos and a charger...and that another thread in it of itself on which charger to get ...lol

basically once you get the right setup, theres no tweaking, tuning, etc involved (compared to nitro). the easiest thing for you would be to wait until the BL e-revo is available and buy one of them. then you dont have to worry about choosing an esc and motor. and you wont have to learn how to solder for the first time on an expensive esc and motor.

+1 on the max amps they are worth dealing with also http://www.spcracing.com
they both treated me right!!

go with TrueRC

To match your 3.3:
Pair of 2s 15-25c 8000mah lipos.
To trounce your 3.3:
Pair of 3s 15-25c 5000mah lipos.
Since the BL Erevo is pre-setup pretty much, all you have to do is plug in the batts, and away you go. A few alterations to the esc programming will be required to make it run as smoothly and efficiently as possible, but like the others said, there is very little maintenance required, just the occassional drop of oil and inspect for loose screws and such. There are few disadvantages, if any- its just a case of buying the required lipos and charger, and reading the instructions. Initial setup costs are higher than with a nitro truck, but in the long run it is much cheaper as you dont need to rebuild the eninge or keep buying fuel etc.
Have a read of the FAQ and tutorials for some more indepth info and ideas:

like i said im a TOTAL n00b to electric and kinda nitro too but electic know no nothing about at all (except the batteries are lipos) so whats an "esc"?

Electronic Speed Controller :)
Definately visit the FAQ and have a thorough read dude. Choosing lipos and a charger is easy enough (once you know what to look for and where to look, but we can help with that), and yeah, given the right lipos, you will see top speeds around 65mph or so. There are MTs out there that will do near 90mph, but thats another story...

give these a shot they are the new and best battery i have seen in a hard shell http://www.maxamps.com/Lipo-6500HC-74-Pack.htm
and a good cheap charger! http://www.*********.com/*********/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=7386&Product_Name=GT_A-6-10_200W_Balance_charger_&_discharger
btw you will need 2 of those batterys! also change them to align taps

You really dont need hard cased lipos in the Erevo, so 2s 8000mah lipos will get you more runtime and bang for buck:
http://www.maxamps.com/Lipo-8000-74-Pack.htm $189 each x 2 = $380- I lied, thats a ripoff.
Go to *********.com and choose something of a better spec, for half the price. The blue *****-H lipos are great value and perform very well.

not very hard to maintain but not complete maintenance free either.
the second question's answer is not so straight forward either.....
you are witnessing at this very moment of reading the forum posts what one or some of the "stuggles" :D struggles are which is opinions on batteries specifically.
I am relatively new but I'll give you my 00100100001011100011000000110010 ($.02) worth to your question. Like a good gas engine or computer, individual components make up the system. The system is as only good as the weakest component.
When constructing an electric system, you must consider (in no specific order when designing) batteries, ESC, motor, usage of vehicle, funds available for construction, and basics to each of these components such as a charger, volt meter, external power supply possibly, etc. You can spend weeks or months designing a system, maybe even years.
I started out with my financing and worked from there. I pulled a number out that I felt was appropriate. As I built my truck, I discovered in some cases I had over valued components and under valued in other cases. Don't let the cost of an item dictate whether or not the component is quality or not. Case and point are the usage of ***** batteries. There cost is not relative to the overall experience many users here have had with the batteries, these batteries are relatively inexpensive from a certain retailer yet they seem to perform very good according to individuals on this forum (search for previous threads on batteries). Remember, there are exceptions to rules, that I will concede.
Take you time, don't rush to buy anything, plan out your purchases, shop around for the best deal on the best components. When in doubt search the forum or post a thread.....
Hope this helps you.

U are not even looking at the ratings! Those 6500 lipos are rated at 30c vs. The 8000's are rated at 20c on paper they would offer similar runtimes and similar current handling specs. For a fair price! Those *****s are good but they are only offered in 3s

I got the *****'s and the new MA hard case 30C lipos, and they both rock! (Just in different ways) The 6500mah 30C's along with my 8000's are for racing and my *****'s are for when I want to break something. HA HA just kidding I break something with eather of them:)
